Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The student body is essentially in agreement when it comes to Lehigh’s academics—if the professor makes the class interesting, the student will become much more fascinated by the subject. Students in the business and engineering schools tend to complain more often about boring classes, while liberal arts students seem more likely to praise their professors. A professor’s passion for the subject really makes all the difference. Lehigh’s workload isn’t impossible, but students are kept busy doing homework, group projects, or studying for tests.

Most professors at Lehigh are engaging, knowledgeable, and friendly. Every professor has office hours, and most are flexible if a student needs to meet outside of those hours. Lehigh has long been pigeonholed as an engineering and business school, but the administration has made excellent progress in establishing the credibility of the College of Arts and Sciences with the construction of the Zoellner Arts Center, as well the renovation of Coppee Hall, the home of the journalism department. (The excellence of the journalism department may be one of Lehigh’s best-kept secrets.) The new STEPS—Science, Technology, Environment, Policy & Society—development will prove to push Lehigh’s Arts and Sciences over the edge. The 135,000-square-foot green building will focus strongly on energy issues. Lehigh has earned its solid academic reputation, as well as the students’ unofficial motto: “Work hard, party hard.”

Academics

Academics are very important at Lehigh, and all of the professors are extremely approachable. You must make sure to do all of the work or else you will not be able to keep up with classes.

Enginerding

At Lehigh you'll find a fair number of engineers. The work load is pretty tough but you'll find that you'll learn to get your work done and still party most nights of the week. Some of the professors are really boring but there's lots of outside help. You can sign up for the free tutoring service Lehigh offers and professors and TA's are usually very accommodating to students who ask for help.

Balance Study and Life

Greek life is a very big part of most students' life here, but people study very hard as well, so there's peer pressure to do well in school as well as social life, in a good way.
