College Prowler Take
Lehigh’s greatest athletic tradition is waking up at 8 a.m. on Saturday mornings and getting wasted before home football games. Kidding aside, morning cocktails and tailgates are some of the most popular events during the whole school year. Fraternities will go around their house, sorority houses, and freshman dorms with pots and pans to wake everyone up, and as difficult as it may be to wake up that early on a Saturday after a long night, tailgates usually see a very impressive turnout. It’s hard to pass up the exuberance of drinking outside the football stadium on a sunny day as the entire campus walks around to each fraternity’s setup in search of beer and barbecued food, as the police just stand back and watch. Few attend the actual football game, which is unfortunate. Wrestling is the other insanely popular sport at Lehigh, although it’s more revered by alumni and the town of Bethlehem. In fact, townies are probably more into the football and wrestling teams than the student body—not surprising given the lack of nearby professional sports teams. The wrestling team is consistently ranked in the top 10 in the country. Intramural sports are wildly popular, as they allow the more casual athletes to participate. Freshman teams are made up of halls in the dormitories, and upperclass teams are fraternity against fraternity and sorority against sorority. Winning intramural sports gives fraternities bragging rights and bolsters a sense of pride and athleticism. Most students tend to get much more involved in intramurals than with Lehigh’s sports teams.

Lehigh football, and perhaps...
Lehigh football, and perhaps soccer will attract some students. Though Lehigh cannot be compared to a Big Ten school as far as sports are concerned, games are a great time if attendance is decent, and of course, if there’s a win! |

The only varsity sports of note...
The only varsity sports of note here are football and wrestling, both are huge, though. IM sports are fairly involved—most dorms, fraternities, sororities, and even off-campus houses field teams. There’s a lot of sports at the club level, as well, if you’re looking for something a little more competitive. |

Our upper campus consists of mostly all the sports fields and facilities. Football is huge in the fall. The team has done well these last couple years, so more and more fans are attracted to the already huge crowd that accumulates at Goodman Stadium. I must add that the biggest rivalry in football history, Lehigh vs. Lafayette, is an experience that you will never forget! The parties start Monday for the following Saturday’s game! It’s crazy! |

Do not let them kid you. If you...
Do not let them kid you. If you are an athlete, and you play anything other than football or wrestling, then it’s not really worth it. If you ask me, there are major problems with the Lehigh Athletic Department, and there always seems to be difficulties with their coaching staff, no matter what the sport. Please talk to other athletes about the team before you join. Do not be wooed by recruiting trips. I’d say that there are hardly any special benefits for being a Lehigh Athlete. (Oh, there’s one: you get to choose your classes before anyone else.) IM sports, on the other hand, are pretty chill and well worth your time. |

Tailgates and playing Beirut are...
Tailgates and playing Beirut are the biggest athletic events on campus. Then there is Lehigh-Lafayette weekend, but that is not so much a sport as an institution. |

Gyms and Facilities
- Grace Hall - It re-opened in November 2003 after undergoing a substantial renovation of the facility. This is the site of women’s volleyball and most home wrestling matches. It also houses the intramural and club sports office as well as the athletic ticket office.
- Lehigh Athlete's Gym - University athletes have their own personal gym on Goodman campus. Entrance is restricted—if you’re not an athlete, you can’t go. Therefore, the facilities are absolutely gorgeous.
- Taylor Gym - The Welch Fitness Center and Racquet Sports Complex, in Taylor Gymnasium, is a multi-dimensional facility for students, faculty, and staff. The center provides the University community the opportunity to improve their health and physical fitness through the use of the center’s state-of-the-art equipment and programs.

Getting Tickets
Students do not need tickets to attend Lehigh sporting events. All students have to do is flash their ID in order to get in to the football games.
Most Popular Sports
Lehigh football and wrestling are both incredibly popular among townies and throughout the Lehigh Valley. But, students are mostly apathetic toward their sports teams.
Most Overlooked Teams
Given that students barely pay attention to athletics, even if there were teams that were considered overlooked, they still wouldn’t bother paying attention to them.
