College Prowler Take
Many students will experiment with drugs at some point or another, if they haven’t already. That being said, Lehigh’s drug scene is really no more prevalent than at any other school. Pot is almost always available as long as you know the right people, although the police are far more attuned to the drug scene than many students realize. There has been a significant number of drug-related arrests over the past few years. On top of the availability of pot, there is also a fairly startling amount of prescription drug abuse. It is not uncommon for students to pop pill after pill of Adderall during midterms and finals, and plenty of students use speed on a daily basis for mere homework assignments. There is also a fair amount of “drug-cocktail” use, as some students will drop a Xanax, Lithium, or Vicodin—or even all three for that matter—into their drinks in order to enhance their night. But, these people are the exception, not the rule. Cocaine has also seen a rise in popularity, which once again isn’t surprising, given the money that many students come from. Hallucinogens, like mushrooms and acid, are also popular among the drug crowd, but as with all drugs at Lehigh, no one should ever feel forced or pressured to partake. Drugs are around, but you don’t have to be around them.

It's the kind of thing you could definitely avoid if you wanted to, but drug use is reasonably common on campus. Pot is almost as easy to get as alcohol, and while not nearly as common, I've seen cocaine, Ecstacy, mushrooms, LSD, and even some Oxycontin on occasion. For the most part, people don't talk about these drugs though. I would say that only alcohol and marijuana have widespread social acceptance.

There are plenty of potsmokers and dabblers in other things at Lehigh. Pretty much all my friends smoke weed. Pot is everywhere, and just as easy to get as a beer. If you want anything stronger than that, you have to look a little harder. |

Whatever, drugs are everywhere....
Whatever, drugs are everywhere. I’ve seen a few kids drop out because of them, and others thrive because of them. If you’re going to talk about drugs, how about we talk about them all? Did you know that the second most prescribed drug on campus is Paxil? It’s true. So would I rather have a few potheads running around than a bunch of morons in a ‘box’? I don’t know. |

There used to be a lot more drug use on campus. It has dropped significantly in the past three years. |
