College Prowler Take

Despite the fact that most students consider Bethlehem nothing more than a ghetto, the town actually has some surprisingly good restaurants. On the south side alone, there are at least 10 quality establishments, and once you cross over the bridge into historic Bethlehem, you’ll find a cluster of very classy restaurants with excellent food. Students with access to a car will open themselves up to a whole new world of possibilities, as there are some very good eateries in nearby Allentown. There definitely seems to be enough variety for everyone to find a place they enjoy. The biggest surprise to most students upon coming to Lehigh is how many good restaurants there actually are.

On any given day of the week, you’ll find Goosey Gander and Deja Brew packed with students clamoring for their terrific sandwiches. For anyone in need of great food at New York City prices, there’s the Apollo Grill, Hotel Bethlehem, and Edge. For good American food at a more reasonable price, check out BridgeWorks and Bethlehem Brew Works. Even the bars in Bethlehem have very good food—the Ho and J.P. McGrady’s are both student favorites.

There are some definite hot spots....

There are some definite hot spots. For lunch, students tend to eat at Goosey Gander and Deja Brew. For dinner, some great places are Apollo Grill, Musashi, the Edge, Brew Works, and Blue.

Goosey Gander has great sandwiches at really cheap prices; Deja Brew is another good option for the same kind of food. The Tally Ho has typical pub food (great wings!), and a great outdoor seating area.

Wegman’s is the best place on Earth! Billy’s Diner is delicious, and they have the best eggs and bacon! The owner is super nice. Olive Branch has excellent Middle-eastern food, and the owner is so nice!!

There are some worthy places in the area. Brew Works is the first to come to mind, as it has an excellent beer selection and pretty good food. Do not go to Bridgeworks, although it’s close to campus, because it’s highly overrated and repulsive. Pane e Vino has great Italian food. For fine dining, I’d pick the Edge over Apollo Grill any day. The atmosphere may be overrated, but the food is to die for. Try the mushroom soup; it’s delicious.
