College Prowler Take
Off-campus housing is abundant, though many of the best houses are handed down through their respective fraternities and sororities each year. Sorority girls often have to sign their leases more than two years in advance to make sure they get the house they want. Fraternity guys aren’t as picky and tend to wind up with disgusting houses, but it seldom matters, as many of them will have lived in filth and squalor during their residence in their fraternities. A small number of non-Greek students take the off-campus plunge right after freshman year and are usually pleased with the freedom and responsibility of taking care of their own house. Most Lehigh students who move off campus do so senior year and are almost always happy with the decision. The three main bars are all off campus, and Leon’s is a two-minute walk from many houses. Most seniors will agree that it’s much more convenient to leave the bars and crash at their off-campus houses than to wait for TRACS or figure out a way to get a ride up the Hill. Of course, there are plenty of advantages to living in a fraternity, as well, which is why a decent amount of fraternity guys continue living there senior year. Off-campus housing is cheap—remember, it is Bethlehem after all—convenient, and a lot of fun, as many seniors live very close to each other.

Off-campus housing is available, as is a lottery for on-campus housing for students who do not join a fraternity or sorority. If students join a fraternity or sorority, they can live in their fraternity or sorority house, which I would recommend for the bonding experience. |

Sororities and fraternities are on campus at Lehigh, and this is an awesome housing option. It’s a great chance to live with all of your friends and have tons of other cool people in walking distance. But off-campus housing is really cheap, and a few streets are nearly all Lehigh kids, which makes it a lot of fun. |

Is off-campus housing convenient?...
Is off-campus housing convenient? Yes. Is it worth it? Depends on what you mean. If your idea of worth involves dealing with a slumlord who’s constantly trying to gouge you for money, and never being able to find parking, but always having a place to throw your own party, then yes. If you prefer to skip the renter’s nightmare, than I suggest you go to someone else’s house parties. |

Finding a house off campus was easy, but you have to plan it at least a year ahead of time, because houses fill up quickly. |

It’s extremely worth it to live off campus. It’s very close to campus, anyway; it’s cheap and a lot of fun. |
