College Prowler Take
A few years ago, a Lewis & Clark College alum gave the school a vast sum of money on two conditions: 1) that the school serve ice cream at every meal, and 2) the school get rid of their Greek life forever. At a liberal school like Lewis & Clark, it’s no surprise that there is no Greek system established on campus. The school is built on the goal of indepdent thinkers—people who challenge conventional thinking and disregard preconceptions. In an atmosphere like this, a Greek system wouldn’t stand a chance and would simply be out of place. Greek life is not missed on campus. In fact, most students, when asked, are thrilled that there is no Greek system. It was a deciding factor for many in the end. When asked about Greek life on campus, the general consensus is: “We don’t have any—thank God.”
