Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Nightlife in Portland is, unfortunately, limited for students under 21. While Portland does get a great amount of excellent concerts, venues have a tendency to be only 21 and over, which is a big hassle to any music lover. Of course, fake IDs are pretty popular because of this. Most students spend their weekend nights at the off-campus parties that are usually held at upperclassman houses, about a 20-minute walk or five-minute drive away. Unfortunately, these parties have a tendency to get busted far too early, but that’s not to say that there aren’t any good parties, either. They’re much less risky than those thrown in a dorm on campus, which have relatively no chance of not being caught and usually consist of alcohol and marijuana.

Clubbing is popular among some students at LC, but it is not the most dominating pastime, probably because it involves transportation beyond walking. However, the Pioneer Express is there for those who do wish to go clubbing or for those who just want to hang out off campus. It’s also convenient because students won't have to worry about a designated driver. While being 21 in Portland is very convenient, it is not impossible to find something to do if you’re not.

Rewarding Efforts

There's always something to do, whether a party or something in town, but you have to make the effort. Parties are often not close to campus and finding things to do in Portland (concerts, shows...) takes effort. However, if you make this effort, the parties are always fun, with live music, and the concerts and shows in town are amazing!

Clubs

There are a lot of night clubs in downtown Portland and you can take the free shuttle that the school offers. Most of the time though, students throw their own parties at students' houses off campus.

Get Ready to Walk

There are usually parties every wednesday - saturday. These are all off-campus in houses or at the river or other places you need to walk to. Bars and clubs are really nice in Portland if you are 21+ or have a fake, it is just expensive and difficult to get back to campus if you miss the free shuttle. The bus system downtown is soo easy to use, and Portland in general is very commuter-friendly. Just be prepared for a lot of walking. Of course, there is always drinking in dorms.
