While dining options in nearby Burlingame are few and far between, downtown Portland has no shortage of great dining options for any budget. Many cater to vegetarians, vegans, and those who want to eat organic or locally-grown food. This is not to mention all the diverse ethnic eating options when you venture even farther into the city. These include Thai, Chinese, Italian, German, Vietnamese, Japanese, and many more eccentric restaurants. The food stalls are a great place to satisfy your appetite while not spending more than five dollars. Also, for all those seafood lovers, there are dozens of seafood restaurants and fish markets in the Portland area as well. There is also an abundance of coffeehouses that are crucial to students who need all the help they can get in order to pull off an all-nighter studying. The lack of an all-night diner within walking distance of LC leaves a smudge on the overall grade for off-campus dining. If all else fails, get a pizza delivered.

There are some restaurants in Burlingame, which is about a 30-minute walk (or five-minute bus ride) from Lewis & Clark. Chez Jose has pretty good Mexican food. I suggest splitting the two-burrito plate with another person---it's a gigantic amount of food. Other than that, there is a Subway, a Starbucks, and Pappacino's coffee house. Most of the great restaurants are downtown, a 30-minute free ride on the Pioneer Express. There's a great sushi place right by where the bus drops everyone off at Pioneer Square.

There are lots of great ethnic places to eat. Since you're close to Portland you have a lot of options. Also, the city caters to vegetarians and vegans; every menu has a section specifically for these types. The school has transportation right to Pioneer Square, and Habibi (Lebanese) and a good Japanese restaurant are both cheap and within a block away.

Portland has amazing food. There is tons of good Thai and pretty much anything else you can think of from Ethiopian to Middle Eastern. There is kind of a lack of good Mexican food, though, which is surprising considering the high number of Hispanics in the area. Best secret spot: Humdingers, a greasy spoon right down the hill from school. It is cheap, fried and quick. YUM!

Portland has a variety of cheap eats including food carts and also many good emerging restaurants. There aren't any good restaurants within walking distance but within biking distance, there are some in Sellwood.

Portland is a big city, so there...
Portland is a big city, so there are tons and tons of places to eat, for all price ranges and types of food. Ethnic food is popular here, especially Indian and Moroccan. 21st has a lot of good, moderately priced restaurants, and if you're looking for fancier, there are nice places in the Pearl District. There are a lot of brewpubs scattered all over the place. Swagat on 21st & Lovejoy is the best Indian I've had. Rocco's Pizza also has really, really cheap slices and is across from Powell's.
