College Prowler Take

While students are only required to live on campus for the first two years, many stick around because of convenience. Others stay on campus to remain close to the student body they’ve become so attached to. The on-campus Apartments appeal to upperclassmen who are sick of dorm life but don’t want to commute to school. Cost-wise, you don’t really save too much by living off campus, unless you get a really great deal on rent. Also, since a group of friends can plan to live together on campus, living off campus seems like one more problem to deal with. However, for some students, the independence that off-campus living allows is well worth any inconvenience or commute that they may experience.

LC students who are sick of eating dull Bon food and want some separation between home and school seem to find affordable housing that is relatively nearby, if they start their search early enough. The Pioneer Express provides free transportation from most neighborhoods to campus, so living off campus doesn’t necessarily mean taking on the expense of a car. Although the availability of adequate housing within walking distance is few and far between.

It's worth it, although it's not extremely convenient compared to living on-campus. You might have to bike to campus everyday, but it's still worth it.

You have to stay on campus your first two years, but after that it's definitely better to live off campus and way cheaper in the long run.

On-campus living is mandatory for two years, and I actually known plenty of juniors and seniors that still live on campus in the apartments, which were built in 2004 and are actually pretty nice. But if you want to get off campus like me, you have to look. There are a lot of house and apartment buildings in the surrounding neighborhoods that have a long history of Lewis & Clark students living in them, and I've never heard of students finding it difficult to find a place near campus.

Students are usually required to live on campus until their junior year. There are a lot of houses around campus. There are some apartment complexes, but they are usually further away.
