How to Get to the Airport

  • Take the Pioneer Express downtown to SW Broadway and Morrison, which is the Pioneer Courthouse Square. TriMet red line goes directly from the airport to downtown. Get off at the Pioneer Courthouse Square stop and take the Pioneer Express to campus. A cab ride to the airport from Lewis & Clark costs between $35 and $45.

College Prowler Take

The TriMet is a top-rated public transportation system that is cheap and reliable. What really makes transportation such a breeze for LC students is the Pioneer Express, LC’s free shuttle that runs hourly between the school and downtown. This includes a stop at Fred Meyer, a superstore with groceries. During long school breaks, however, the Pioneer Express doesn’t run, and students who opt to stay on campus are limited to the TriMet buses, which don’t run very late or often to LC.

Students have no excuse to be stuck on campus. All that Portland has to offer is a free shuttle trip away. An additional free shuttle, the Sellwood shuttle is great for commuter students who live in the nearby areas. Once you’re downtown, hop on the MAX, board a bus, catch the Portland Streetcar, or even hitch a ride on the Vintage Trolley, an elegant, old-style streetcar
that runs on the weekends. With so much to do in Portland and so little to do anywhere else, students are grateful to have unlimited transportation at their fingertips.

The light rail (the Max) is just...

The light rail (the Max) is just as easy and convenient as any subway system (though you have to wait outside in the drizzle instead of down in a warm--and dirty--subway station), and there's a bus to take you anywhere the Max doesn't reach. Bonus: If you're alone on a bus after 7 p.m., the bus driver will let you off anywhere along the route if you request it, not just at bus stops.

Next year, due to budget issues,...

Next year, due to budget issues, they're cutting the Pioneer Express between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. and the Sellwood shuttle to SE Portland completely. If you really need to get downtown when the Pio isn't running, the #39 Tri-Met bus will still run. Portland's public transportation is fantastic. The Tri-Met Web site is really helpful, and if you have a good sense of direction, you can get almost anywhere in Portland from Pioneer Square.

Public transportation is amazing...

Public transportation is amazing in Portland. There is a tram that runs through just about every and any area of interest downtown, and it is quite efficient. The shuttle from the school to downtown is also pretty convenient as it runs every hour from the morning to very late at night. It can get kind of crowded and claustrophobic inside, though.

It is super easy to get from...

It is super easy to get from campus to Portland because of the shuttle (the Raz) that runs from the student center to the middle of Pioneer Square. Also, Portland public transportation is some of the best I have ever seen. Portland is a very easy city to live in without a car.

Portland has great public...

Portland has great public transportation, and some of it is essentially free. The shuttle that the college provides is great for getting downtown and to Fred Meyer to buy groceries, but it doesn't run very late on weekdays and can get very very crowded. They are discussing shutting down some of their free shuttle service, but as of now, the shuttle is great.
