Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Linfield College has been described as a powerhouse in the Northwest Conference and NCAA Division III athletics. Both varsity and intramural sports are popular; if a student isn't playing a varsity sport, then he or she is probably playing an IM sport. Varsity sports are well respected and supported, not only by Linfield, but by the town of McMinnville. The majority of students and community members attends games, with generally a lot of excitement and enthusiasm. Linfield teams are all pretty competitive, even intramural sports.

The Linfield sports teams, also known as the Wildcats, have a great following and because there is always a winning team at Linfield, there is never a dull moment. Sports are so popular that the Linfield Athletics Web site has play-by-play videos, broadcasts of the games, and record books dating back to 1896. The Linfield Hall of Fame was established in 1998 to honor former Linfield athletes, coaches, staff, and contributors, and to preserve the memory of their past achievements. Top alumni include former New York Yankee Scott Brosius, who is now the head baseball coach at the College.

Go Wildcats!

The athletics at Linfield are great. I'm not an athlete myself, but our main sports have excellent records and a lot of the student body really gets into the games and the teams. The gym here is small, but pretty well equipped and the hours are great. Everything is always clean and mostly in god repair. It's really nice that the athletes on campus don't just talk to other athletes, but rather mix with everyone on campus. It really can feel like the whole school is on "the team".

Athletics are a very integral part of the Linfield community. You don't have to play for the school, but you can do I.M. which is really fun and you can support our Wildcats! Football is basically our claim to fame but we are good at other sports, too.

Team Performance

Our football team has not had a losing season in 55 years. Last year our football team lost in the semi finals of the national championship tournament. That same year our baseball team did the same and our fastpitch team made it to the quarter finals. Our basketball team made it to the league playoffs for the first time in quite a while last year and this year are projected to be second in our league. I think it is due to the hard work we put in as student athletes. We take school first and the rest of our time is spent getting better at the sport we participate in.
