Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Most students feel that the campus is pretty diverse, and the school goes out of its way to emphasize global exchange, especially with Diversity Week, where students have the opportunity to share their cultural and ethnic heritage. Overall, students on campus are a good mix of friendly, well-rounded people. There is also a wonderful travel abroad program, so the campus does get a good share of foreign students who study on campus, as well. The study abroad program is excellent, being one of the top schools of its kind. The International Programs Office provides study abroad opportunities in 14 world locations, including France, Norway, England, Austria, Australia/New Zealand, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Ireland, and Hong Kong.

Linfield College emphasizes diversity through respect of different thoughts, cultures, and ideologies. Students are required to take a writing-intensive course addressing global diversity and a course dealing with American pluralism. Off-campus educational experiences include the Semester Abroad program, involving four months of study in various locations in Europe, Asia, and Mexico. With emphasis on understanding others in a global environment, students are generally open to new ideas, thoughts, and social acceptance. Linfield truly does embody a diverse campus, as the students are generally aware, tolerant, and open to people from all walks of life.

A Lot of Talk

Linfield College does try to encourage diversity and has many clubs dedicated to mixing all types of people together, but in reality, as a private school, the ethnic and racial diversity is incredibly low. The main group here is white upper-middle class with quite a few exchange students from Asia and really not much else. They make the effort to be diverse and to welcome all groups, but not all groups are on campus to welcome.

There are many different races, but a lot of our minority studetns are international exchange students. This affects the ability to have more cultural clubs and socialization.

Fairly Diverse in General

Linfield College is in general moderate in diversity. While many of our long-term students are white, we have a considerably large body of international transfer students, a few different religions, and we're pretty diverse in political beliefs and sexual orientation.
