Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Sororities and fraternities at Linfield generally add to the social scene, but they do not dominate it. Both Greek organizations support many fundraising events, which allow students to get involved in various benefits and activities. The fraternities also sponsor weekend parties, which provide students with the opportunity to relax, meet others, and have a great time. Students feel that Greek life is an added bonus, as it provides a great support group and an alternative to sports.

There are four fraternities and four sororities at Linfield. The fraternities and sororities work with numerous organizations to promote service within the community by raising money, working with various organizations such as Habitat for Humanity and March of Dimes, and contributing thousands of hours of volunteer work. The role of Greek life definitely adds to an already active life on campus, which students seem to appreciate.

Well Integrated

The Greek Life on campus is pretty well integrated with non Greek Life. The sororities do not have houses, so they share dorms or apartments with non-greeks and there seems to be good mixing. The fraternities have their own houses, but do not seem terrible isolated.

Greek Life

Only the fraternities have houses, and some girls in sororities only gave rushing a chance because of this, but some wish that we did have houses. I liked that we didn't have houses, but now I think it would be nice. However, the plus side with not having a house is it makes Greek life more a part of campus and less exclusive. Most Greeks are friends with other Greeks and non-Greeks. Greek life is rarely ever hostile and contrary to popular belief, (especially compared to state schools), Linfield Greek life is NOT all about partying. It's about real brotherhood or sisterhood and honestly, philanthropy and community service is really important, especially at Linfield. Greeks offer a lot for campus and the community and is a positive aspect of Linfield community.
