Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The general consensus of Linfield students, since most are under 21, is that the parties are localized at the fraternities. Under-21 students usually hang out with friends, heading into town to eat at Serendipity or Third Street Pizza. While there are plenty of bars and hangouts to choose from in the area, in general, most students are more likely to spend their Friday and Saturday nights at a local fraternity or campus party than at a bar off campus.

Most Linfield students have a great time at on- or off-campus parties rather than off-campus bars. There are live bands on campus, as well as theater events, and a lot of students have their own rock bands or play guitar or piano, so there is bound to be a lively group of students putting something together somewhere. Also, the College is great about putting events together, so there is always something to do on campus. Sports and Greek life at Linfield are also a plus, as there are always events and activities that students can get involved with. In addition, students at Linfield are very social, so there will always be groups of students up to something.

Nightlife

A lot of people claim Linfield's nightlife is not up to par with big state schools such as OSU or U of O (a lot of people will go party there at some point in their time at Linfield), but it depends on your viewpoint. If you like going to parties where you know absolutely no one and it's an almost guaranteed mess, maybe a large state school is better for you. At Linfield, the weekends range from casual to ragers, you can find chill nights or nights where everyone is out having a good time. The frats are a safe, fun place to go. Though sometimes I admit, it can feel redundant. If you like to dance and hang out with people you know, it's really fun! Cabana (or Hobana haha) Club and Rooftop bar are a few common places you can go if you're 21 + (but underagers get in to Cabana all the time). The frats are in easy walking distance and so is third street where the bars are but it's not very safe walking there, a dd is best.

Not Really a Party School

The nightlife at Linfield can depend on what type of student you are and what night of the week it is. We do have fraternity houses, which host parties on a fairly regular basis, generally a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday thing. Be wary if you are underage though- campus safety highly discourages underage drinking and enforces it pretty well if you are caught.

The library is open most nights until 1 am, so if it's during the week, you'll find many students there

Organization Parties

Prior to a Homecoming football game or any big sporting event, expect a tailgate party, and after the big game, expect a reception and dinner with friends, classmates, parents, and alumni. Also, parties and events are organized through fraternities, sororities, the alumni, and the College. There is also a huge luau prepared by the Hawaiian Club with professional fire throwers and Hawaiian event planners; it's a tradition that no one skips out on.
