Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Although there is relatively reasonable housing to rent within a mile or less of campus, most upperclassmen choose to live in the campus apartments, which are quite nice and conveniently located. Since there is so much happening on campus, with various events, students choose to live nearby. Also, off-campus housing is not available for underclassmen, as there is a requirement for freshmen and sophomores to live on campus (unless a student is commuting from his or her parents'/guardians' house).

There are seven apartments referred to as "the suburbs," which are College-owned, quite new, and reserved for upperclassmen who have a minimum of 62 credit hours. Although living off campus gives students freedom and independence, many students feel that the community and social environment are much better on or near campus, and that it is easier to stay connected to friends. Students recommend to either live in the dorms or live in the "suburbs" owned by the College, since they are both close to campus. You don't want to miss the social scene, which is a large part of college life.

Having a wealthy private school in the middle of a low income town wasn't the best decision. There have been a lot of break ins and assult to our students by gangs. The housing is cheap though, and really close to campus.

Off Campus Housing

There are off campus houses and apartments or duplexes that are really common. There is a kind of off campus community; people will try to live in the same neighborhoods as other students and it's not too far away from campus. I'm not sure on the costs.

There's Not a Lot of Off-Campus Housing

Linfield prides itself on having a lot of on-campus housing, which includes residence halls for freshman and sophomores and apartment-like housing for juniors and seniors. There are some res halls that have been there since the beginning (about 150 years), and some housing has recently been built within the last 10 years. On-campus housing can be pricey, but there's not a lot of off-campus housing either.
