Private School Kids..

My parents really wanted me to come to Linfield. I was worried because I dress/enjoy the music big city scene. But many people I talked to assured me there were all kinds of kids that go to this school. WRONG. Everyone I have met is the same preppy private school kind of kid. Most of them are really nice, but you get no diversity pretty much. If you a little different in the ways you think or dress you will have a hard time fitting in.

Greek Life

Sorority and Fraternities are smaller at Linfield. Our sororities do not contain a house, but our Fraternities do.

Could Have Been Easier

It was very hard because there were many papers to sign, copy, and send. However, the process was worth it because I received enough aid to attend.

Not Really a Party School

The nightlife at Linfield can depend on what type of student you are and what night of the week it is. We do have fraternity houses, which host parties on a fairly regular basis, generally a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday thing. Be wary if you are underage though- campus safety highly discourages underage drinking and enforces it pretty well if you are caught.

The library is open most nights until 1 am, so if it's during the week, you'll find many students there

There's Not a Lot of Off-Campus Housing

Linfield prides itself on having a lot of on-campus housing, which includes residence halls for freshman and sophomores and apartment-like housing for juniors and seniors. There are some res halls that have been there since the beginning (about 150 years), and some housing has recently been built within the last 10 years. On-campus housing can be pricey, but there's not a lot of off-campus housing either.

All You Can Eat Needs Help!

The food at Linfield is alright. Since lunch and breakfast are paid by the flex dollars the food is delicious. However, dinner is a different story. All the dinners are all you can eat and the food isn't great. Also, I would really like to see some healthier options.

Passionate College Allows for Personal Growth, Enormous Success

Linfield has an incredible community atmosphere, both academic and socially. I have truly discovered so much about myself in my time at Linfield, and the incredible opportunities I had to be a leader on campus which has been particularly rewarding. Additionally, the support and challenges I have received from my professors will be what gets me in to dental school... I know my professors on a personal level and they know my strengths and passions. At Linfield I have become a well-rounded student and a globally-conscious citizen.

Gym/Workout Facility

This needs to be redone and expanded. For such an athletic campus, it's amazing that the gym facility has not been placed on a high priority list for remodel.

Greek Life Is Fun

Though small, Linfield is a great school. I joined the Greek system my sophomore year, and it was definitely one of the best decisions that I've made since I've been here. Also, the size of the school makes the campus feel more like a community, as it's easy to get to know a good portion of your peers. Class sizes are small as a result, which is really nice.

Friendly,Happy,Welcoming

Located just a short walking distance from Linfield College is 3rd Street, the historic downtown area of McMinnville, OR. Here you'll find Serendipity Ice Cream, a cozy shop filled with a variety of delicious ice cream and other tasty desserts. There are also many different boutiques that are more than happy to welcome students and visitors into their shops. A perfect way to spend a weekend afternoon

The Right School for Many, but Not for Some

I think overall Linfield is a great school if one is looking for a small community and school. Everybody knows everybody, so if you want more anonymity, this is not the school for you. The professors try their best to make students succeed. This school is tough, but there is always help.

Active Campus

I am a person who likes to keep busy and Linfield is perfect for that! There are many activities to get involved in and there are always recreational things to do on campus whether its a football game in the fall, a movie in the evening, or a concert after class. There are plenty of clubs and organizations. It is easy to be as removed or as involved as you would choose. You will never get bored!

True Community

I have fallen in love with Linfield because it is a community in the truest sense of the word. People know each other, care about each other, and care about their school. People are always smiling and waving to each other and the camaraderie is palpable. Also, for a private school, there is a lack of "snobbiness" that I know exists at some other institutions. There is no stigma to work study jobs or to being thrifty. There are some students at Linfield with considerable resources, but there are a lot more who are working and taking out loans to get through school.

Yay for Linfiled

If you are looking for a party school, a big school, or a fantastic town, Linfield isn't for you.

Don't get me wrong, I love going to Linfield. But, the students are there to focus on their academics. When Linfield is fun, it's a blast and every one is out and about. If you are looking for a smaller school with smaller classes and more individual attention, Linfield is a great school for you too!

Guys & Girls at Linfield College

Most students feel that the overall attractiveness of the students at Linfield are high and that there is a mixture of different personalities. Most are friendly, well mannered and fun to be with. Since the school emphasizes connecting learning with leadership opportunities, there are plenty of fraternity and sorority students who fundraise for good causes, and sponser live bands, dances and events so there are ample opportunities to meet other students. The college is also big on sports so there are a lot of the jock types as well. The great thing about Linfield is the focus on balance and trying new things, so often times, many students will meet their special someone in a field that is totally unrelated to their own and at the same time discover a new subject that their passionate about. Many students pursue their passion through research or internships which later help with their career choices.

Awesome Housing, Lots of Options

Linfield's on campus housing is amazing! We have something like 17 different options. There are dorms with roughly 20 people to dorms with roughly 90 people. Most dorms are co-ed by floor, meaning there will be a guys floor and a girls floor. There is also 1 all-guys dorm and I think 1, maybe 2, all-girls dorms. There is also a wellness dorm, which is supposedly drug and alcohol free, but they also have longer quiet hours. I lived in Hewitt Hall freshman year and that was a great dorm. One fabulous thing about Linfield is that laundry is free so you don't have to collect quarters and you can do as many loads as you please. I would definitely suggest living in "south campus" because really it's more like central campus and is close to everything from the library, dining hall, sports facilities, post office, Catty Shack, Renshaw where you can print 24 hours a day, and a few academic buildings. North campus is close to mainly academic buildings and O'Riley's cafe. Another great aspect is that Linfield has on campus apartments that are really amazing. The Hewlett Packard apartments were built sometime in the 2000s and are really modern. The only downside is the living room is small, but you can live in the Whites if you want a huge living room. Linfield has everything from singles to doubles to triples to suites to quads to apartments. There are choices galore for housing. And I'd say they are pretty affordable. Some dorms even have walk-in closets or sinks in the rooms.

Not Really a Big Deal

We have rules and guidelines, yet they are not that harsh. Our college is quite liberal and democratic in nature, so school policies are generally voted by the Student Government. The school policies doesn't not really affect our lives much, even if it does, it's for a good cause.

Student Teaching

It is a requirement for us to do student teaching in order to get a license. Student teachers are unpaid, and the time commitment can be just as rigorous as a regular paid teacher. It is a pretty good experience that I have in the classroom, and the college is doing very well in helping me to go through the challenges that I've faced.

Realistic and Practical

I like the how the department set the requirement that students have to do their aiding placement in classrooms. Through this experience, I learned a lot and I feel that I'm more prepared for my future job. And also, I'm lucky to witness a lot of good teachers in my aiding experience as well as in my classes, thus shaping me to be a better educator.

Tough, but Worth It

I am a biology major and the course load is pretty tough. I am working through it in two years, so that makes it a lot harder, but there is definitely an expectation of academic excellence. The professors are great about involving students in research and being available to help. The facilities are great and the faculty that run the lab and good about having all the supplies ordered and prepped.

Tasty and Afforadable

There are quite a few tasty and affordable options. There are a few options for nice dinners and a lot of casual dining options. The variety is a bit lacking, but you can find American, Chinese, and Mexican for a pretty good price.

Quaint and Pretty

McMinnville and the Linfield campus are very pretty and well kept. The main part of historic McMinnville is very warm and adorable. It is the main part of McMinnville to enjoy. There is an aviation museum and water park close by as well. The Evergreen aviation museum has an amazing collection including the Spruce Goose!

Typical Valley Weather

Well, we get a good amount of rain and not a huge amount of sun. It's the Willamette Valley, and this is just typical valley weather.

Safe and Comfortable

Most of the time, I feel very safe walking around campus. There are a couple of sketchy neighbourhoods close to campus, but there is rarely any cause for concern as long as you practice common sense. Campus safety are generally good about providing rides and escorts if you do feel unsafe.

Well Integrated

The Greek Life on campus is pretty well integrated with non Greek Life. The sororities do not have houses, so they share dorms or apartments with non-greeks and there seems to be good mixing. The fraternities have their own houses, but do not seem terrible isolated.
