Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Since the campus is a close-knit community and close to the town's center, many students are not aware that there is public transportation available, not far from campus; this could be because many students bring their own cars to the College. Other students find they don't need a car, since downtown is not far from campus and within walking distance. Also, since Linfield is a small, tight-knit community of students, transportation is often available through friends who have vehicles on campus. Plus, the campus and the town of McMinnville are generally very bike friendly.

The town of McMinnville is located in the Willamette wine country and features public transportation and an extensive network of bike lanes within the city. There is the Yamhill County Transit that runs through McMinnville; however, the schedule is Monday to Friday 6:30 a.m. to 7:50 p.m., and Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., which is not very convenient compared to urban bus schedules that sometimes run all night. However, there is a very convenient service available called Dial-a-Ride, which is available for anyone unable to access the fixed routes due to mobility limitations or those whose origins or destinations are not within close proximity to the fixed routes. An unlimited monthly Dial-a-Ride pass currently costs $35, with discount passes also available. Dial-a-Ride operates Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You must call ahead 24 hours in advance to schedule a pick-up. Pick-up and drop-off times are usually within 10 minutes before or after scheduled times. Usually, when students need to get to the Portland Airport from campus, the school has shuttles available to transport students.

Cars Are Best

There are no buses in McMinnville so you either walk to quaint downtown or catch a ride with someone who is going to the major stores like Walmart and Winco that are more necessary. I have a car so I dont have much of a problem. But there are a few shuttles through Linfield that can be taken over breaks to get to the airport and people are very friendly and willing to help each other out.

Walk or Your Own Car

You can either walk to where you want to go, or use your car or find a ride from someone else. It is usually easy to walk, but sometimes the cold weather is a pain

Lots of Cars

A lot of Linfield students have cars, myself included, simply because it is the best way to get home for the summer. There is not a major airport or train station in McMinnville (the closest ones are in Portland) so you need a car to get there if you are traveling several states away. I use my bike to get around campus and town because it is better for the environment than my car. I wish we had better public transportation, especially up to Portland.
