Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Due to the four seasons in Oregon, students at Linfield try to take advantage of all the outdoor sports available to them. During the winter, skiing and snowboarding are popular, while the warmer weather in the spring and summer brings camping at state parks or surfing at beaches near the coast. Of course, the Pacific Northwest has its share of rain and overcast days, and depending on the student, there are mixed feelings about the rain; some feel the weather is bipolar, while others believe there is still fun to be had. Overall, the weather is gorgeous when the sun shines and beautiful in the fall with the seasonal change.

Despite the rainy weather, most students enjoy the different seasons. Autumn is beautiful on campus and in the town's surrounding areas. McMinnville rarely gets snow; however, Linfield has a snowboarding and ski club where a student can enjoy the winter sports by the coast at Mount Hood, which is approximately two hours away from campus. There is also a Hawaiian club on campus, where students take advantage of surfing by the coast. Although it can get cold and rainy during the winter, you can always curl up by a gas fireplace (in the newer dorms) with your friends and enjoy cocoa, s'mores, and a good book.

Overcast With Mild Temperatures

Being a college located in Oregon I was prepared for rain and gloomy days. On the contrary, the weather was not bad at all. In fact, the weather made it easier to stay inside and study. There were nice days as well which enabled us to be active outside, but during finals the bad weather was appreciated.

Typical Valley Weather

Well, we get a good amount of rain and not a huge amount of sun. It's the Willamette Valley, and this is just typical valley weather.

Temperate Climate

Typical Northwest weather. A decent amount of rain, but temperatures are not extreme. Sure, it got up into the 90's during the start of the year, but that only lasted a couple of weeks.
