Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

When you think of college sports, do you think of multi-million dollar stadiums, elite athletes, national media coverage, and thousands of screaming fans? Well, think again. College athletics come in all shapes and sizes. Here at the D-III school Louisiana College, the venues may be a little smaller and the games a little sloppier, but Wildcat fans wouldn't trade their school spirit for the world. Students at LC get to experience athletics in a unique way. For many students, the experience is hands-on: several teams, including soccer, golf, tennis, and cross country, will take anybody who is willing to make a commitment to the team. This gives all students the opportunity to practice, travel, and play at a collegiate level. Sure, your team may never win a game, but the fun you will have definitely makes up for a losing season. Of course, the Wildcats have their strong sports as well. Women's basketball won the ASC Conference championship in 2009–2010. Softball is consistently ranked high in ASC polls and has placed 3rd in national competition. The football team has enjoyed winning seasons for several years, and the men's basketball program grows stronger every year. These sporting events are always well-attended by a spirited group of students. Don't know the fight song? Just make as much noise as you can. So paint up and gimme a C-A-T-S!

Intramural sports are also wildly popular on campus. Sports include flag football, basketball, ultimate Frisbee, softball, indoor volleyball, badminton, Ping-Pong, and bowling. Intramurals are played in either the H.O. West gymnasium or on the brand-spanking-new artificial turf football field, so you'll feel like a real athlete whether or not you have a coordinated bone in your body. As both intercollegiate and intramural athletics grow in size and popularity, Wildcat fans find more to cheer about each year.

Growing

We have a great and growing football team, with a new stadium built just last year and sports like softball that won the championship last year, and are nationally ranked. We also have basketball, soccer, tennis, and cross country, all play in div. 3.

Sports Are Growing and Great

The sports at LC are on the rise. Our winning football team continues to grow and welcome recruits. Our ladies softball and basketball is the best in the country in their division. Areas lacking is soccer and some school spirit.

Most Popular Sports

Ever since Wildcat Stadium opened in 2009, football games have been enormously popular. Women's basketball and softball have also gathered a large following as they continue to have winning seasons.

Most Overlooked Teams

Most people aren't aware that LC has both men's and women's cross country teams and a men's golf team. The men's and women's soccer and tennis teams get slightly more notice, but few if any students attend games.

School Spirit

Students get very excited about football games. Face paint is available at the EV boardwalk, and everybody decks out in blue and orange. Throughout the year, students are always seen sporting the Wildcat logo. The school's small size gives the students a great sense of community and school spirit runs deep. Even though LC is a Division III school, students take pride in supporting athletics, and the athletes form a close bond with their teammates and coaches.

Getting Tickets

Students get free admission to all sporting events. Additional tickets are available at the gate or online. Basketball, softball, and football games are well-attended, but the wait in line is very short.

Best Place to Take a Walk

A few students use the exercise and fitness trail located behind H. O. West. For a more scenic stroll, students often drive or jog the mile and a half down Main Street to the Red River ampitheater. Nearby Kisatche National Forest is also a great location for hikes and picnics.

Did You Know? Men's basketball coach Gene Rushing also doubles as the teacher of badminton—one of the most popular classes on campus.
