Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The stereotypical LC student is a middle- to upper-class Baptist with Southern manners but a tendency to be clique-ish. As far as the general student population goes, picture High School Musical: You’ve got jocks, geeks, preps, music nerds, and rebels all sharing the same space. It’s about like that at LC. Thankfully, though, the lines aren’t drawn quite so strictly—students mingle between groups when hanging out. Date somebody outside your circle, though, and you can expect people to start talking. And speaking of talking, LC students have a tendency to spread rumors like wildfire. Hook-ups and break-ups are always fuel for gossip. “Did you hear what she said about him?” “No, I thought they were still together!” If you choose to stay away from drama, though, it generally won’t affect you. The most popular students are the ones who ignore cliques and are immune to peer pressure.

When it comes to dating, the small campus size narrows your selection while at the same time making it easier to meet new people. The Christian atmosphere affects the nature of relationships; both guys and girls tend to stay away from hookups and open relationships. Some students view dating as a recreational sport, but most take it more seriously, so be sure to communicate your standards early. The number one rule is to avoid sealing yourself into a clique. Talk to everyone, be yourself, and have fun!

Ring by Spring

Marriage and relationships are the norm at LC and that is all people talk about. Ring by Spring and the marriage swing in front of the girls dorm says it all. Out of the freshman who came to college single over 75% have a boyfriend/girlfriend within the first month.

LC Is Great

LC is a small Christian school, with a small number of students. With only around 1400 students, the atmosphere is more like a family. you get to know so many people. Most students attend LC because this is where they feel that God has lead them. Also the acedemic quality at LC is much greater than other state schools in our area. Several medical grad schools look for LC students because they know we have received a good education.

Facts

Social Scene

The students at Louisiana College are friendly and outgoing. If you live on campus, it's easy to meet new people. Most students hang around the game room, Cottingham lobby, or EV commons during the week, but over the weekends most people go home and the campus is nearly deserted. Basketball, softball, and football games are popular.

Hookups or Relationships?

The majority of students at LC are looking for a husband or wife, so there aren't a lot of random hookups. Freshmen often date around but settle in by their sophomore year. By the time they graduate, most students are either single or in a solid relationship.

Dress Code

For class, most students wear jeans with hoodies or sweatshirts in the winter and shorts with T-shirts in the fall and spring. You can't go wrong with clothes from the bookstore. There is not a lot of pressure to look cute, but most girls dress up for campus events, church, and work. Guys can get away with basketball shorts and sweats pretty much everywhere they go.
