If you weren't born in the South, get ready to experience climate shock during your first Fall semester. Let's just say you'll learn to appreciate days that are 95 degrees in the shade. The hot, humid summer lasts until late September, and you can often expect warm weather until the middle of December. On the plus side, though, you won't have to invest a lot of money in your winter wardrobe. January and February are typically the coldest months of the year. Snow is rare, but other forms of precipitation fall with determined frequency during what students jokingly call the "winter rainy season." Expect rain, sleet, driving rain, drizzle, freezing rain, thunderstorms, soaking rain, hail, drown-a-duck rain, and good old-fashioned rain for the first month or two of the Spring semester.
If you don't drown during the short, violent winter, you're in for a treat. The Louisiana spring is one of the most beautiful times of the year. The mornings are cool, the afternoons are warm, the sky is blue, and azaleas and daffodils bloom all over campus. Students take advantage of these mild temperatures and gather outdoors to study, play Frisbee on the quad, enjoy the breeze, and take naps in the shade. The summer heat and humidity don't set in until late May. Even though the weather is perfect, you'll still see students walking to class in hoodies and sweatpants. That's because LC classrooms are notoriously chilly in the spring. Overall, though, the weather here in Pineville is very livable.
