- Tiger Cash is accepted in many restaurants around campus, such as Moe's and Plucker's, giving students a chance to use their meal plans off campus. LSU offers tons of chances to eat for free without having to dine and dash. Try the Chancellor’s free pancakes the week before finals, the churches on campus offer tons of free jambalaya dinners and lunches, and check out Tigers After Ten for free pizza at 1 a.m. once a month.
College Prowler Take
Louisiana is a state known for its food, but most LSU students would not recommend campus dining as an accurate representation of the state’s best. Several students would rather take the brisk five- or ten-minute walk off campus to restaurants in the North Gate area, as opposed to eating from the campus dining options. However, LSU dining is not something to run screaming from. Most students can find something to fill their hungry bellies for a reasonable price. The Union Tiger Lair seems to be the number one place, offering students a variety of safe bets like Chick-fil-A and Pizza Hut, alongside options like pasta bowls and Louisiana fare. The Café Vieux Carre in the French House is one of campus’s hidden treasures, offering students great sandwiches and beignets, as well as a great atmosphere. The dining halls are also fairly safe. Though it may be cafeteria food, it’s a little more advanced than your high school’s offerings. The dining halls give students a chance to eat a lot of food for really cheap. Both the Pentagon and Highland dining halls offer a wide variety of meal options for those looking to use their dining meals. LSU meal plans have three components. There are cafeteria meals to be used in the dining halls, Paw Points to be used at on-campus eateries, and Tiger Cash, which not only works for food, but also for everything from making copies to doing laundry. The best advice is to figure out what you want to eat and select a meal plan that suits you best. If you know you hate food that comes on a slotted tray, steer clear of plans with lots of dining points. The best bet is to get Paw Points or Tiger Cash that can be used everywhere.

There are new meal plans that incorporate off-campus dining, and that seems like a good bet. If you have to get an on-campus meal plan, go for few cafeteria meals and lots of Paw Points, which will get you more edible food in the Union or around campus. |

Food is decent on campus. I wouldn’t make a daily living off of campus food, but if you’re hungry and don’t have anything to eat, it serves its purpose. Blimpie and Sandella’s are good places to eat in the Union. If you want more of the generic fast food items, there’s Chick-fil-A and McDonald’s that are always pretty safe bets. The dining halls aren’t bad, but once again, I wouldn’t make a daily living off of their food if I could afford it. |

The food is the same price as any other fast foodplace. I would highly recommend bringing your own lunch, in which case you will save over $100 per month. That money can go to some better use. Use your imagination. |

When I was a freshman, I tried not to eat in the dining halls because there didn’t seem to be much healthy food to pick from. There’s always something fried, and there’s an ice cream machine. The Union has Chick-fil-A, McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, and places to get salad, sandwiches, sushi, and pasta dishes. I’ve heard you can’t trust the sushi, and that the personal pan pizzas at Pizza Hut are to die for. I like to eat the wraps at Sandella’s, but other than that, I haven’t really been a frequent diner. There is a Starbucks (eCommons) downstairs in the Union, which I do enjoy on a regular basis. It’s good to have a place to stop for a good cup of coffee on the way to and from classes. |
