College Prowler Take
Campus strictness is kind of a mixed bag. You can get away with a lot, but not murder (or growing pot in your room). LSU is usually looking out for underage drinkers on campus, except during football game days, and most of the dorms don’t allow alcohol. Students in the on-campus apartments have less restrictions, but if you are living in a dorm, you have to obide by their rules. RAs will search your room, so it’s important to make sure your coffee pots, booze, and anything else illegal is locked away when you are not around. Campus Strictness depends completely on where you end up living. People in the Pentagon throw keg parties on the weekend without having any problems, while student in West Laville have to write essays if they are caught with a hot plate. Check out the on-campus housing section for more information on each dorm’s reputation.
Game day tends to be the most conflicting day for students in run ins with campus police. Some cops allow students to run wild on LSU game days, while others are looking to hand out as many MIPs as possible. However, it’s still hard to use the word “strict” when the entire campus has been turned into party grounds. For off-campus students, the major quip was with DUIs. If you are driving drunk in Baton Rouge, you will get caught. But you should always designate a driver for personal safety.

It really depends on the time of the month and year. They are very strict about drugs, regardless. Many of the bars on campus get raided every once in a while by the ABC. The police are also strict about speeding on campus. |

If you are under 21, it is pretty hard to get an MIP on game days, but I don’t know about drugs. If you are over 21, you physically cannot get an MIP, and they do not hassle you about drugs. It is awesome to be over 21 at LSU. |

Police don’t usually get too into the drinking scene unless you’re caught driving drunk or something. But, otherwise, they know it’s going to happen no matter what, so they don’t really do much about it. I have heard of a few drug busts around campus. That tends to be a much more serious issue with the police than drinking. |

Well, these guys in my dorm smoked pot the entire year and never got caught. We had huge, entire-section-of-our-building parties where we’d drink in the rooms. Two guys did get arrested, but that was for stealing a golf cart from the PMAC and driving it across Nicholson Road. |

Campus police have been known to...
Campus police have been known to issue MIPs [Minor in Possession] at football games and campus parties if beverages are in their original bottles or cans. Usually you’re okay if your beverage is in a cup (not a clear one). There are usually lots of campus police patrolling at night looking for drunk drivers. I’m not sure how they are about drugs, but I know a kid got seriously busted for growing marijuana in one of the dorm basements my freshman year. That’s the only drug-related incident I’ve heard of on campus. I’m pretty sure he won’t receive an LSU diploma in his lifetime. |
