Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The drug scene at LSU is a matter of debate. If you don’t consider alcohol a drug, LSU seems to be in the clear. However, if you do consider liquor, wine, and beer a kind of drug, LSU has a serious drug problem. LSU is known for its party reputation. (See the Nightlife section.) LSU football games usually go by the standard of “win or lose, we booze,” and binge drinking is a competitive sport. But the school is trying to clean up its act with stricter rules, and by trying to publicize non-drinking as the norm. As far as other drugs, students tend to stay away from hard drugs. Rarely do you hear of students doing drugs at all, and most students are quick to admit they have no idea about the campus drug scene. You’d be hard-pressed to find any sort of Traffic- or Blow-style drug rings or anybody who has even seen that sort of thing in real life. There is a relatively larger amount of soft drugs like marijuana, or study drugs like Ritalin and Adderall. During finals, you can find many students in the library hopped up on pills to stay awake for several days.

Overall, LSU’s drug scene does not overshadow the school. Plenty of students don’t do drugs, and if they do, most of them don’t talk about it. If you remember DARE from your elementary school days, you should be fine. Remember kids—just say no.

Clean Campus

As in any campus there are an amount of drugs on campus but at LSU i have never experienced a first hand encounter. LSU is a very clean campus and drug safety is not a problem unless you get into drugs yourself.

I Mean, It's Louisiana

Basically everyone drinks. And drinks a lot. There's no peer pressure about drinking but pretty much everyone is in Tigerland, especially if you're greek. You could find a scene with any drug you want to find, but they keep on the down low so if you don't want to be associated/around it, you wont be. As long as you're not drinking and driving the cops literally do not care.
