College Prowler Take
The drug scene at LSU is a matter of debate. If you don’t consider alcohol a drug, LSU seems to be in the clear. However, if you do consider liquor, wine, and beer a kind of drug, LSU has a serious drug problem. LSU is known for its party reputation. (See the Nightlife section.) LSU football games usually go by the standard of “win or lose, we booze,” and binge drinking is a competitive sport. But the school is trying to clean up its act with stricter rules, and by trying to publicize non-drinking as the norm. As far as other drugs, students tend to stay away from hard drugs. Rarely do you hear of students doing drugs at all, and most students are quick to admit they have no idea about the campus drug scene. You’d be hard-pressed to find any sort of Traffic- or Blow-style drug rings or anybody who has even seen that sort of thing in real life. There is a relatively larger amount of soft drugs like marijuana, or study drugs like Ritalin and Adderall. During finals, you can find many students in the library hopped up on pills to stay awake for several days.
Overall, LSU’s drug scene does not overshadow the school. Plenty of students don’t do drugs, and if they do, most of them don’t talk about it. If you remember DARE from your elementary school days, you should be fine. Remember kids—just say no.

Well, hopefully, you don’t consider alcohol a drug; if so, then I do a lot of drugs. Other than that, I only see the Mary Jane, and I think that is easily available. |

I don’t hear about drugs a lot. A lot more people smoke weed than did in high school and are more open about it. |

I don’t know too much about it; I don’t see many people at all who look like ‘druggies.’ However, I’m sure they are out there to be found, if that’s your thing. |

Drugs are available to those that are interested. For those that participate, I’m sure you develop your own connections and networks from whom to get drugs from. |
