College Prowler Take
Students said it: athletic facilities are top-of-the-line. From Tiger Stadium to the Rec, students can’t argue with the high-quality equipment and constant maintenance these areas receive. The Rec has everything from a swimming pool to a rock-climbing wall, giving students a great place to work out, even if it is crowded most of the time. Tiger Stadium is constantly being updated with money from the Tiger Athletic Foundation, so it remains a prime spot to catch the annual LSU-Florida football game. But there is plenty outside of athletic facilities at LSU. LSU architecture, with its Italian Renaissance-style, gives the campus a gorgeous overall appearance, and the many nationally-recognized buildings make LSU a work of art. However, some of the buildings don’t really match, and it’s obvious which were built in the ‘70s. Places like Middleton Library and Lockett kind of ruin the mood, unless Brady Bunch-style bright orange and mint green is your thing. The campus is swathed in stately oak trees and magnolias making it seem cozier than other places of higher learning. The Union is in the process of a major overhaul to become a better place for students to hang out. Many of the classrooms have been updated to include top-of-the-line equipment, like computers, smart boards, and projection systems. LSU is constantly under construction, a fact most students find irritating—until they see the finished project.

The Rec Center fee is included in students’ fee bills, and they have been improving these facilities over the past few years. They offer many aerobics classes, and if you time it correctly, it usually isn’t too hard to get a cardio machine. It’s best to go before 2 p.m. and after 9 p.m. The Union is pretty nice, aside from the retro décor. The food selection is fairly decent, and there are lots of rooms for meetings and open areas for studying or socializing. |

Athletics are top-notch . . . we love our athletes! Computers are good—brand new, pretty much. I don’t find anything wrong with the Union, other than a lack of quiet areas for studying. Bathrooms are usually pretty nasty. They’re old, small, smelly, and some have bug (roach) issues, and I can hardly imagine the amount of germs that have made themselves a home in 99 percent of them. The bathrooms in new buildings or those buildings that have recently been remodeled do not have most or any of these issues for obvious reasons. |

All of the facilities are very nice, especially the Rec Center. There are plenty of machines, even a swimming pool. There are racquetball courts and weights. The computer labs are also very nice. |

Fifty-seven of our buildings are listed in the National Register of Historic Places, and we are one of the 20 most beautiful campuses in the nation. The architecture is incredible and definitely adds to the amazing aura of LSU. Buildings are constantly being renovated or improved to maintain the phenomenal facilities on campus. |
FactsWhat To Do on Campus
Just on campus, you can walk the gorgeous LSU lakes, speak your mind in Free Speech Alley, have a fancy lunch at the Faculty Club, bowl a couple of frames, peruse an on-campus art gallery or museum, lay out on the Parade Grounds, grab some food from the Union, watch a play in the Black Box Theater, work out at the Rec, or roll down the Indian Mounds.
Favorite Things To Do
There is almost always some sort of event on campus being hosted somewhere. Whether it be a club showing a movie in the Union, a play in the Black Box Theater or at Swine Palace (not as gross as it sounds), or people picnicking on the Parade Ground, there is bound to be something happening. Student organizations publicize their views and hand out pamphlets in Free Speech Alley, while across campus, there might be an important baseball game to check out or a special collection opening in one of the campus art galleries. With all this action, students usually end up wandering over to things and checking them out. The Groovin' on the Grounds Concert every spring is always well attended, as is the yearly Homecoming Concert. But mostly, LSU students like nothing more than to just sit around. You can always find people avoiding the dredges of class by taking a rest on the Parade Grounds or near the fountains in the Quad.
