College Prowler Take
Baton Rouge public transportation is severely lacking. Most students avoid taking the city buses and cabs, and instead opt to pawn rides off of friends or stay in the campus area. The city system is in the process of revitalization efforts, but it will take major improvements for it to become a major mode of travel. However, the LSU bus system is fairly reliable and a good option for students (with patience) who want to travel in the campus area. The Greek bus transports students with or without fraternity or sorority association through campus during the day. The drunk bus is a great way to get from the bars to your late-night destination without having to designate a driver. Since LSU buses are free, there is no reason not to try them out. Baton Rouge is fairly spread out, and since public transportation is far from reliable, the best bet is to try to come to LSU with a car. It is not a necessity and several students do survive without one, but it will give you the freedom to explore all of what Baton Rouge has to offer.

I’ve heard there are tipsy taxis that you can take from the bars right off campus, but I’ve never used one. I think they take so long to get there that anyone who seriously needed it would have passed out by the time it got there. I’ve never used Campus Transit before, but I’ve heard they take forever to pick you up. The Greek bus and other campus buses claim to run of a regular schedule, but on a given day, their tardiness or slowness or ability to pick the worst possible time to take a break will give the average LSU student a panic attack and make him or her late. Sometimes, bus drivers will pass up entire bus stops. While it may be to due the bus being full, sometimes it just seems to be out of spite or inattention. I prefer to walk to class because our campus is beautiful, and the bus system is unreliable. |

Bus transportation between LSU and...
Bus transportation between LSU and nearby apartments is excellent, but bus transit elsewhere in town is not very good. |

The public transportation is...
The public transportation is sometimes convenient to get around campus, although walking is more reliable, and the campus isn’t that big. The buses are supposed to run on a set schedule, but they are often off schedule. As for getting around Baton Rouge, a car is the most desirable mode of transportation, but all LSU students can use Baton Rouge’s public transportation for free. Yet, it is a hassle. One must take a bus from LSU to the bus station downtown, and then catch the Baton Rouge bus to their desired location. |

Not very. Outside of taking the free campus buses from a number of surrounding apartment complexes to campus or taking the ‘drunk (late-night route) bus’ to the bars, there is little to no getting around town on transit. |

I never take it, except to campus. Getting to school is not bad, but the routes’ timing could use a little work. They should hire bus drivers that actually want to work. |
