College Prowler Take
Loyola is a Jesuit school with no fraternities or sororities, so most entertainment takes place off campus. House parties happen in high school, and when you go to college in a big city, you’ll soon understand why they should stay there. Why hide out in a house when you can dance like a wild banshee in the streets with someone whose name you won’t remember the next day? Campus is a fine spot for pre-gaming and late-night activities. But whoever said that staying in the same spot for more than four hours at a time was fun clearly did not understand the entertainment to be had lurking into the dark city streets lit up by sparkling shoes and moonshine. Thank you Baltimore.

There are parties on campus, but I have never gone to one. If I stay in, I usually play cards and drink with a bunch of people, or play drinking games. Usually, we go out—York Road during the week and on Saturdays, and to Fell’s Point on Fridays. Freshmen should stay at Swallow at the Hollow. Sometimes we go to Jerry’s. Make sure to sign the wall in the basement. In Fell’s Point, we go to Timothy’s, but the bouncer is a miserable man, and you need a really good ID to get in, or sneak in through the window in the back. Freshmen go to Reefers. There are other bars in Fell’s such as the Horse and Greene Turtle. Sometimes on Thursdays, we go to Federal Hill. It’s more of a club scene there. |

Parties on campus are pretty good if they don’t get broken up by the campus police. The bars on York are pretty disgusting, but all your friends are there. I recommend, for an older crowd, certain bars in Fell’s Point like Max’s and others in Federal Hill. |

Parties are relatively rare on campus. It’s just smaller groups of people drinking before heading out to the bars. Bars dominate this school. Get an ID. |

There aren’t many parties on...
There aren’t many parties on campus usually, just pre-gaming. Loyola is very much a bar school. Everyone goes out to the bars on the weekends. York Road and Fell’s are the two main spots to go to, but make sure you go on the right days. On York, there’s Swallow at the Hollow. Fell’s is just bar after bar. It’s easy to find a place. |

Generally, there aren’t campus parties. Campus police are fairly strict, so room parties usually only happen once you have an apartment on campus. Most nights out are spent at the bars on York Road, Federal Hill, and Fell’s Point. There are spots in Power Plant that have 18-year-old nights, also. |

Club Listings
Baltimore’s Have a Nice Day Café—one of a chain of ‘70s-theme clubs, celebrates all the good things to come out of the faded decade. The not-so-subtle decor includes yellow smiley faces, period artwork, and a Saturday Night Fever-style dance floor, with pulsating colored lights and disco balls galore. The musical nostalgia extends well into the ‘80s, even though many of the club’s college-aged supporters were still in diapers back then. Some swear by the bar’s trademark “Happy Bowls.” Others complain about the difficult Inner Harbor parking and steep cover charge. Beware of the strict dress code—no athletic wear, shorts, or sandals. But if disco music turns you on, break out the bell bottoms and boogie on over. Since the cover charges and drink specials are constantly changing, check the Web site for updated information. Gimmicky bar names aside, the Horse offers tons of great specials every night of the week, such as buy-one-get-one and all-you-can-drink for a flat rate, as well as a full food menu for evenings out. The Horse You Came In On Saloon 1626 Thames St. Fells Point (410) 327-8111
Mad River is known for its upscale atmosphere and dress code (no hats, baggy jeans, or sweatshirts on weekend evenings). They also host happy hour specials almost every night.
Magerk’s is a popular neighborhood bar with a live DJ and a patio for outdoor seating. Magerk’s also serves a wide array of fairly priced food—especially for an evening out in Baltimore.
McFadden’s crowd is very young, mostly packed with college students and young professionals. Good thing McFadden’s is one of the largest pub and restaurants in the happening Power Plant Live!—with outdoor seating, a private club room, and a cavernous paneled bar. This saloon is both a sports bar and an Irish pub with plenty of TVs and leather sofas— not to mention the great menu. McFadden’s 10 Market Place Power Plant Live! (410) 779-7101

What to Do if You're Not 21
In the heart of Towson’s shopping district, this concert hall has an eclectic mix of local and nationally-famed artists like Dave Matthews and the Dead.
This club is for anyone above the age of 18 but is in a pretty seedy neighborhood, so watch your back getting in and out of the cab.
This dance club is near a blue-light district and is another place that is open to 18 year olds. However, it is close to very dangerous parts of the city.
This relaxing place is in Towson, right near Towson University. The atmosphere is dark and mystical. A lot of students choose to go here because it is open until 4 a.m.
