College Prowler Take
Close to 80 percent of all Loyola students stay on campus all four years, which makes plenty of sense, because student housing at Loyola is unlike any other school. Senior year, some people become interested in seeking an outside alternative for a few reasons. One, they are sick of dealing with the campus police, they are 21, and they want to be left alone. But beware: Baltimore neighbors are seemingly unimpressed with loud music at 4 a.m., barfing in the bushes, and seeing garbage strewn about their lawn. And they call the real police! Second, Loyola does not believe in the benefits of seniority, so the seniors have the smallest dorms. Truth be told, you will not be able to afford the type of suites provided by Newman Towers after graduation, so it seems Loyola is just prepping you for this real world experience. For some reason, Loyola puts students in rooms that fit five or six people for the first two or three years, and then senior year, decides that you should lose a friend or two and can onlylive in rooms equipped for four. Mid-day soaps don’t have anything on the drama that will engulf your life while trying to decide whom you can live without, so for anyone who refuses to ditch a member of the group, off campus is the best bet. A big downfall to moving off campus is that even though the off-campus townhomes are directly across from the on-campus senior shacks, when something goes wrong, you can’t call technology services, physical plant, or student life. Living across the street from Loyola means you are on your own.

Off-campus housing is a good option but you have to follow the campus rules if you’re in one of the communities close to the school. Some communities won’t let you rent. |

You don’t have to worry about off-campus housing because Loyola has plenty of room. Usually junior or senior year, people move off campus, so the first two years are a guarantee. |

Housing off campus is very limited after freshman year. The city has an agreement with Loyola College regarding the number of college students who are able to reside off campus within a certain perimeter of campus. Also, commuter students park at a lot that is located approximately one mile from campus, and a shuttle provides transportation to campus. The shuttle service is great, but it adds time to the commute. |

I wouldn’t live off campus until senior year, if I ever do. Housing is excellent, so why give it up? |
