The library was renovated in 2008. It is a nice facility with a video viewing room, individual viewing stations, and study areas. This is a popular place during exams. The FAC (gym) is very nice with an Olympic-sized pool, a rock-climbing wall, weight room, track, squash court, classrooms, basketball courts, and soccer fields. Most students go to the FAC several times a week.

Baltimore weather can be pretty much anything. Be prepared for all weather conditions at all times. It's generally hot until October and nice until November, then gets somewhat nice in March and really nice in April. Lots of rain and snow in winter and rain in fall and spring, though. It could be 25 or 65 in January depending on the day.

The facilities are very nice at Loyola, particularly the athletic facility. The library was recently renovated, and Loyola is part of a connected library system where you can request a book from another college and pick it up within 24 to 72 hours. The student center has everything you need and is fairly efficient. The only issue I have is a lack of balance within the academic departments. For example, fine arts is generally forgotten and does not have the best facilities it could possibly offer, yet, the science and business departments are constantly updated and maintained.

The food is good at first, but you get sick of the same old choices. It is also extremely expensive, and since it's a la carte, you pay for everything you eat. Plan on budgeting about $1,800 a semester on food, in addition to tuition and room and board.

Food on campus is pretty good. Primo’s, the main dining hall for dinner, has a lot of choices and tasty food. I especially look forward to their Thanksgiving dinner, with homemade turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and veggies. But, because it’s so expensive, I usually just cook in my own dorm kitchen. For lunchtime, however, I love Boulder sandwiches. They just don’t get any better! And a six-inch turkey sub is really cheap—it costs practically nothing! One of the things I miss the most about Loyola when I’m away is their subs.

The food here is actually really good. Some favorites are the wraps, pizza, stir-fry, and quesadillas. Even though it’s good, it does get a little boring after a while, so bring some of your own food to make in your room.

The food here is okay for the first couple of months on campus. Then you seem to get bored of the selection, or run out of money because it costs so much. I suggest learning how to cook.

I heard the dorms are the nicest in the country. But I’m told after freshman year, everyone has an apartment. Butler and Hammerman are the freshman dorms and are bad by Loyola’s standards but awesome compared to other schools. The rooms there are huge.

As a computer science major, I feel that having your own computer is best, considering the fact of the student to ‘working’ computer ratio is not so great. The network is really good, and every year Loyola tries to improve it by adding more bandwidth and wireless access points.

The professors at Loyola vary an incredible amount. You will probably have the majority of your best teachers in your last two years because you have taken the advice from others on which ones to take. The professor totally makes the class. A class that sounds deathly boring could be the best class you’ve ever taken if the professor is amazing. Towards the end, I stopped choosing classes based on the course name and chose them based on the professor name, which made a difference in the quality of the class and my grade.

Teachers are kind and available for assistance outside of class. Some classes are long lectures, but most are entertaining and interesting. I can honestly say I have enjoyed almost all my classes and teachers—they try very hard to get to know the students.

Loyola is located in a great neighborhood in northern Baltimore City. Three sides of campus are surrounded by mansions and extreme wealth. To the east of campus, the neighborhood rapidly deteriorates to the ghetto within a half mile. York Road is the dividing line. You will always be safe on campus, but keep your guard up when traveling near or on York Road.

On campus you're fine. There are plenty of Loyola Police around at all times, and the school is in a safe Baltimore neighborhood for the most part. East Campus brushes up against some seedy areas, and I have heard of some late-night muggings off campus in these areas. However, that is usually the result of kids binge drinking then deciding to walk home from the bar through these areas.
