Quick Stats24-Hour Labs?
Yes - Library Information Commons, St. Roberts Computer Lounge
College Prowler Take
Got a project due and your computer crashed? Visit one of LMU’s numerous computer labs around campus. The main computer lab in the new William H. Hannon Library boasts 80 computers with capabilities ranging from Web browsing and word processing to image and video editing. The computer lounge in St. Roberts’ basement houses approximately 25 computer Mac computers, which offer the full Microsoft office suite. Labs get crowded, especially toward the end of the semester, and the charge for printing adds up quickly. The labs are nice for group projects, but for a last-minute paper, you are better off with your own computer and printer to avoid competition for a spot in the labs. If you need to use one of the computer labs, it might be worth it to try the smaller labs in University Hall. Although they are open for limited hours most of the semester, these labs tend to be empty and quiet.
Words of caution when using the LMU computer network: the system is shut down for maintenance often—usually at the most inconvenient times. Viruses also run rampant through the system and attack users through e-mail. Often, users receive e-mails containing viruses, so use up-to-date anti-virus software with warnings about the latest virus on campus.

Wi-Fi is everywhere on campus, and there is a computer lab everywhere you turn. There has never been a time where I haven't been able to get to a computer.

The labs are fine. I hate the e-mail and Internet here, though. They don’t do anything to stop viruses, so I get like three e-mails a day with viruses. Plus, they’re always repairing the network at the weirdest times, and it’s always during finals or midterms. |

If you can’t afford a computer, don’t worry. There are tons of computers all over campus. I always go into the sociology village computer lab because it’s usually empty. The only problem is that the printers sometimes don’t work in the labs. |

Everyone brings their own computer, but the computer labs are still pretty crowded. If you’re a film student, by your sophomore year, you’ll need a Mac. |

The computer network is fast when it’s working, but the network gets ‘temporarily shut down for repair’ at inconvenient times. |
