Approximate Parking Permit CostParking Permits
Parking permits are available for all students, faculty, and staff for free. To obtain a parking permit, go to Public Safety in Daum Hall with your student ID and vehicle registration. Students can park in specific on-campus lots depending on their dorm, and all students can park in University Hall and the visitor lot. However, parking on campus requires time and patience because spaces fill up fast, especially in Parking Lot A and the Drollinger Parking Garage. Your best bet? Park in University Hall’s P2 and P3 where there are typically several dozen open spots at any given time.
College Prowler Take
The general attitude among students at LMU is that parking is a huge problem that is quickly getting out of control. Public Safety assigns students to a specific lot depending on their dorm, while commuter students are stuck in University Hall or the visitor lot. Parking generally requires a little bit of luck and a little bit of patience. It is not uncommon for students to drive around for 30 minutes to an hour in search of a spot; however, the parking garage at University Hall usually has spaces available at all times. The downside to University Hall? As one of the most recent buildings acquired by LMU, U-Hall is separate from the rest of the campus and requires about an eight-minute walk to the main buildings on Alumni Mall. On the positive side, parking at LMU is free, but students cannot register more than one vehicle. However, on the negative side, a parking permit does not guarantee a parking space, so there is usually a shortage of spaces for the number of cars on campus. Additionally, as the University admits larger freshman classes each year, the parking situation worsens, but the University has no plans to address it. Parking tickets at LMU are high, with no fine under $50. Public safety patrols the campus at all times to catch violators of the strict parking statutes. When parking at LMU, remember that the free parking permit does come at the price of added frustration and higher parking tickets.

It's terrible. There are way too many cars and not enough spots. Everyone can bring a car, but I wish they couldn't. Another problem is that LMU students can't park!

The parking situation tends to vary depending on what side of campus you're on and at what time of day. Generally, you can find parking within 30 minutes at worst, though personally I've never had much trouble.

We park for free . . it’s included in tuition. There aren’t enough spaces on the main end of campus, but I’d rather drive around for awhile than pay extra. |

Parking is fine. Yeah, it’s hard to find a spot, but we do it for free. I know friends who go to other schools who pay $75 for the cheapest parking pass and that gets them a spot at an off-campus location where they take a shuttle to campus. The fact that we can park in different areas on campus for free, no matter how hard it can be sometimes, is awesome! |

I hate it. The dorm lots are the worst. Drollinger is dark and scary. Be careful there at night because it’s hard to see, and some really scary people hang out there. I hear the commuters always complaining about parking in the visitor lot. I guess it’s always packed. |
