It's Los Angeles—there are so many different things to try here. Everything, however, is pretty much driving distance. LMU is a closed campus, but we do have various transportation that will take us off campus called the Lion Express.

There are tons of clubs in Hollywood, but some require California ID to get in. There are lots of fun, busy bars in Hermosa, Venice, Manhattan Beach, and Santa Monica. House parties are always a good option, except the neighbors won't like it much.

It's terrible. There are way too many cars and not enough spots. Everyone can bring a car, but I wish they couldn't. Another problem is that LMU students can't park!

This is LA so everyone on campus is beautiful, dresses well, and is incredibly fit. This is not the kind of campus where students will go to class in their pajamas, ever. Everyone seems to be pretty interested in appearances, but it's not overwhelming.

I have heard almost nothing about...
I have heard almost nothing about intramural sports at LMU, but varsity sports seem to be a fairly big deal. The most popular sport on campus is definitely men's basketball, and they draw the largest crowds to games. A lot of people participate in sports, but it is definitely not something that LMU is particularly known for.

Public Safety is really strict...
Public Safety is really strict about drinking and drug use. I know of a few students who have been expelled or suspended for drug use in the dorms. Public Safety seems to always know about parties on campus and is very eager to break them up and stop any underage drinking. For this reason, most larger parties are held at off-campus student housing.

Our campus newspaper is always reporting on drug and underage drinking busts, so I'd assume they're pretty strict.

There isn't a whole lot within walking distance of LMU, but I think there's a pretty good selection of cultural cuisine between the neighboring cities of Playa Del Rey, Culver City, Marina Del Rey, and Santa Monica. Some of my personal favorites are C & O Cucina (Italian), Hurry Curry (Japanese), and Paco's Tacos (Mexican).

The parking situation tends to vary depending on what side of campus you're on and at what time of day. Generally, you can find parking within 30 minutes at worst, though personally I've never had much trouble.

The public bus system is fairly convenient, but only going to certain locations. There is a bus stop right outside the gate of campus, but it takes a while to figure out how to transfer at the right stops. I basically just take it to Santa Monica because it's a straight shot, though my roommate from New Jersey goes all over the place.

The parties are usually good if you know where to go. If you are under 21, finding places to go to have a good time is very hard.

To make it here, you have to find your place. Find people with the same interests and beliefs and also branch out and meet new people. I think LMU provides enough clubs and activities and classes to do that. Yeah, we’re not USC or UCLA, but I think that’s a good thing. We have our own identity. |

Well, at first it was very frightening, not knowing anything. You just somehow find a way to know your way around the system. At the beginning, I wanted to be somewhere else because I thought I wouldn’t fit in socially or intellectually, but I soon adjusted. There are times when things are just too new to make the effort of getting used to it, like classes. |

I’d say that there are no especially ugly people at LMU. Everyone is very presentable. Hey, this is LA, where everyone is in the latest fashions, and everyone tries to look their best. |

This is LA! LMU is near UCLA and USC. You’re next to Venice Beach! You’re near Hollywood. There’s nowhere better to be. This is the place to visit. Besides all that, LMU is beautiful. You are on a bluff overlooking a beautiful view. The classes are small. The dorms are big and spacious. Grass and trees are everywhere. We’re also very close to LAX! We even have a wonderful religious community and beautiful church. And for all those religious people—our school is in the shape of a cross. In my opinion, there is no better place to be! |

Like all the schools I have...
Like all the schools I have attended, there are teachers I love and teachers I hate. I don’t think you can ever escape that. The classes were weird for me at first, because I was used to having a test all the time. But you get used to the midterm and final routine. I think it makes the classes better because I hate to study, and I can concentrate on learning. I love going to class at LMU even if I don’t like the teacher so much. I feel that I really do learn. I think they are interesting because you can choose from your core what classes most interest you, and, of course, your major should interest you, too. |

Yuck. It’s so unhealthy to eat here. I live on the salad bar and Jamba Juice because everything else is drowning in oil. |

There are so many restaurants around here that you’ll never get bored. Islands has the best burgers, and if you’re low-carbing, you can special order stuff. |

I don’t think sports are that...
I don’t think sports are that huge. I wish they were, though, because that would bring more boys. We don’t have a football team, which is a big downer. The school wanted to be small, so they got rid of the football field. Our biggest sport is basketball, and I don’t think we’re that good. Our rival is Pepperdine. I say we forget the small school crap and build us a football and track field before it’s too late! |

We park for free . . it’s included in tuition. There aren’t enough spaces on the main end of campus, but I’d rather drive around for awhile than pay extra. |

Learn the bus system if you don’t have a car. The Santa Monica Blue Bus #3 line starts at LAX and ends at UCLA. It stops by the Third Street Promenade and other places, too. It’s great, and it picks you up right in front of University Hall. |
