Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

One word: sunshine. Although it is a stereotype, California is the land of sun and surf with little variance in seasons. If you are from the eastern half of the nation, a winter without snow and ice is bizarre. Instead, California winters are much like the other seasons: mild and sunny. In the winter months, precipitation comes in the form of a deluge of rain; often, the city receives a month’s allotment of rain in two or three days. While the rest of the nation suffers with arctic cold fronts, Californians deal with some light wind and rain. Although Los Angeles lacks winter weather, fashionable Angelenos break out their winter coats and Ugg boots when the temperature dips below sixty-five degrees.

The coastal areas, including LMU, are breezier than the rest of the city. In the mornings, a blanket of sea fog covers the area, but it usually dissipates in the afternoon. For the cooler, breezier days, a sweatshirt or coat is highly recommended, although some students still wear T-shirts and shorts. LA is one of the few cities in the nation where students don’t need to worry about walking to class in
the snow.

It's Los Angeles. What Is There to Say?

You can't beat the weather at LMU. It's by the beach, so it's never too hot, but you won't ever have snow or freezing winters like you might at other schools. Last year the coldest it ever got was in the 40s, and that was during the height of winter. The one issue is that because it's by the beach, the weather has a habit of changing very quickly and it can get quite windy, but even then, it isn't really a big deal. I couldn't ask for better weather.

Awkward by-The-Bay Weather

It is always freezing in the morning, but the day gets warmer and warmer. You always have to be wearing something thin under something really thick because you don't know what to expect. I am usually colder because it looks sunny, so I am mentally prepared for it to be sunny but it ends up being either windy or cold because we are by the ocean. I love the cold, but at least if I am somewhere like Canada, I know for sure it is going to be cold so I know what to wear unlike here. Southern California weather is good though, it is just awkward when you're school is right next to the beach, but overall we have beautiful weather.
