One word: sunshine. Although it is a stereotype, California is the land of sun and surf with little variance in seasons. If you are from the eastern half of the nation, a winter without snow and ice is bizarre. Instead, California winters are much like the other seasons: mild and sunny. In the winter months, precipitation comes in the form of a deluge of rain; often, the city receives a month's allotment of rain in two or three days. While the rest of the nation suffers with arctic cold fronts, Californians deal with some light wind and rain. Although Los Angeles lacks winter weather, fashionable Angelenos break out their winter coats and Ugg boots when the temperature dips below sixty-five degrees.

The coastal areas, including LMU, are breezier than the rest of the city. In the mornings, a blanket of sea fog covers the area, but it usually dissipates in the afternoon. For the cooler, breezier days, a sweatshirt or coat is highly recommended, although some students still wear T-shirts and shorts. LA is one of the few cities in the nation where students don't need to worry about walking to class in
the snow.
