Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Although there is certainly disagreement on the topic, most students agree that the best thing about studying at Loyola is the care professors put into teaching their classes. Few teachers live on or even near campus, but this does not stop them from going out of their way to meet outside of their class schedule with students who require assistance. This relationship beneits both sides by creating a strong community of learning where students turn into instructors and instructors become students. Unfortunately, the elimination of some of a department’s programs severely hinders its ability to recruit students. Recently, Loyola’s financial situation has stabilized somewhat, allowing for continued improvement of the academic environment.

Despite the University’s financial problems, however, it is still possible to find nationally acclaimed programs at Loyola. The business school has a record of excellence, providing many men and women the background and environment they need to be successful in the fast-paced climate of a big city’s economy. Graduates from all of Loyola’s departments leave with a strong sense of social justice. Many of them find homes providing aid in various forms to communities throughout the world. Anyone looking to pursue a pre-medical or pre-law degree at Loyola will find the school superbly equipped to answer to their needs, both in facilities and in professional assistance. Additionally, the schools of communication, nursing, and education have gathered quite a positive reputation, and are well equipped to prepare students for careers in their chosen field. In the end, although he or she may have to deal with more administrative red tape than the average academic, any student with a desire to learn can excel in any department at Loyola

Same as Anywhere

If your class is not available, keep trying. When I went to orientation, a class I needed was not available. The next week there were additional classes posted online so I was okay.

Biology at Its Best.

I am a bio major, and Loyola is known for their biology/premed program, so I can relate to many people, their classes, and interests. Majoring in biology is very tough, and you have to be a dedicated student that is willing to do a lot of outside work and studying in order to attain decent grades in your classes. Loyola has a myriad of connections to businesses in the city, so finding a job or internship through the University is pretty attainable. The staff in the biology department are very helpful, knowledgeable, and approachable.

Jesuits take education very seriously, so there is a definite emphasis on it. Teachers are not always great.

Did You Know?

Loyola’s 1963 NCAA champion basketball squad was the first major Division I college team to play four African Americans among its starting five.

Loyola is home to one of the larger Jesuit communities in the world, with 100 priests, brothers, and scholastics all serving the University and its surrounding area in some way.

Loyola’s football team was dubbed the “Ramblers” in 1926 because it traveled constantly throughout the United States. Although the football program was discontinued in 1930, the unique Rambler name remains.

The movie Flatliners was filmed primarily at Loyola’s Lake Shore Campus.
