Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Drugs, like just about everything else you could possibly want, are abundantly available in Chicago. Not many students at Loyola resort to hardcore drug use, but there are certainly those that do. Although few people will admit it, it sometimes seems like the majority of undergraduates smoke marijuana at least every now and then, if not on a regular basis. Even if they avoid the green weed, a large percentage of Loyolans spend their non-study hours indulging heavily in alcohol. Overall, drug use is not prevalent, however, and students generally do not feel pressured to do drugs. No one at Loyola will shove a joint in your face and demand that you smoke it. If you choose to do drugs, it will be of your own volition. Just remember, drugs are bad, okay?

Although they tend to welcome “soft” drugs such as alcohol, nicotine, and pot, Loyola students stay away from the harder stuff. You will find few cokeheads or heroin addicts on campus. Most people who hear about the use of this sort of drug by one of their friends are utterly disappointed. Students like to have a good time, but they do not want to see their friends become the victims of rampant drug use.

Alcohol Use

I do not see much drug use, although I'm sure it happens just as frequently as it does on other campuses. Alcohol use seems to be a bigger problem. Many underage people drink and have fake IDs. I think that Loyola is trying to get stricter they just do not know how to do it.

Weed and Rare Other Drugs

alcohol is VERY easy to find and most people have fakes and buy from Brunos or 711 with no problem. Weed can be found if you look for it for sure. All other drugs are definitely more rare

Not a Party School

At Loyola University, partying is limited to groups. You would have to join a frat or a club to take a substance or drink alcohol. There's definitely a lot of peer pressure, but you would have to be a complete idiot and have fake friends to do it. Aside from that, a lot of people on campus just smoke the moment they get out of a building. Policy enforcement is the same as any other university.
