College Prowler Take
Drugs, like just about everything else you could possibly want, are abundantly available in Chicago. Not many students at Loyola resort to hardcore drug use, but there are certainly those that do. Although few people will admit it, it sometimes seems like the majority of undergraduates smoke marijuana at least every now and then, if not on a regular basis. Even if they avoid the green weed, a large percentage of Loyolans spend their non-study hours indulging heavily in alcohol. Overall, drug use is not prevalent, however, and students generally do not feel pressured to do drugs. No one at Loyola will shove a joint in your face and demand that you smoke it. If you choose to do drugs, it will be of your own volition. Just remember, drugs are bad, okay? Although they tend to welcome “soft” drugs such as alcohol, nicotine, and pot, Loyola students stay away from the harder stuff. You will find few cokeheads or heroin addicts on campus. Most people who hear about the use of this sort of drug by one of their friends are utterly disappointed. Students like to have a good time, but they do not want to see their friends become the victims of rampant drug use.

The only drug I've ever...
The only drug I've ever encountered was marijuana. I haven't encountered it a great deal, but it's there if you want it. Adderall is another drug that is prevalent on campus (hazard of stressed out students), but other than that I haven't seen much else around on campus.

Aside from alcohol, drugs aren't too prevalent. You will find the occasional pothead, but nothing else really.

I think there are a lot of people...
I think there are a lot of people at Loyola who do drugs. It is obvious that a lot of people smoke cigarettes, because they can be found outside any building around campus. There is even a round cement structure in front of CFSU that the students call "The Ashtray" because in the warm weather students sit on it and smoke. Besides cigarettes, I think a lot of pot is also used around campus. I smell it coming from rooms on my floor, and the elevators in Mertz almost always smell like it.

Yes, there are drugs at Loyola....
Yes, there are drugs at Loyola. But I couldn’t call it a ‘drug scene,’ per se. There are drugs at every college. There are probably drugs on every city block. Let’s put it this way: it’s just as easy to score some drugs at Loyola as it is to avoid them altogether. And if you do score them, try not to do a bunch of them first semester, freshman year, in your dorm, and then go freaking out á la some famed single-semester alumni we know. |

You can get pretty much anything...
You can get pretty much anything you would want on campus if you know where to look and who to ask. However, students’ drug use is not prevalent, nor is it obvious to notice which kids use. Sometimes stoners, in actuality, are just lazy kids. |
