Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

GQ is definitely not knocking down the doors to get to Loyola’s guys, and you won’t see the girls on the cover of Cosmopolitan. Still, the campus overall is a fairly attractive one. The problem is that for most of the year, Loyola students hide their most attractive features with scarves, gloves, and long underwear. You would think that any piece of uncovered flesh would immediately turn to ice and fall off, which could theoretically happen in Chicago’s frigid winter. The trick is to get people out of their cold weather clothes. Then they’re hot. The best part about students is that they all come from different social and economic backgrounds, making it very likely you’ll find someone to curl up by the fire and drink hot cocoa with on a cold night.

Students are not at Loyola because they wanted to have fun while at college. The University does not have the academic prestige of Harvard, nor does it challenge the party reputation of places like Indiana University. Loyola is somewhere in between. Students find a way to blend academic prowess with having a good time. Most students do not go around looking to get laid, but people can let themselves go when the right party arises.

Girls are abundant, guys are stylish.

The 65:35 girl to guy ratio and Loyola is very noticeable on campus. All females (when it's not winter) dress to a "T" and most are attractive. The guys at Loyola all seem to be reasonably attractive too, and if you are a girl who's worried about the girl to guy ratio, just remember that Loyola is situated among 10 million people, so while you may have to look a little off campus, they are there.

Loyola is very diverse. Even though girls rule the school, us girls still have some hope! Boys range from athletes, hipsters, alternative, to your typical frat bro. City girls can be super trendy or the complete opposite. As I said, Loyola has a wide spectrum of students.

Dress

Guys and girls for the most part dress like hipsters. We are in the city, so that could be why. Girls where leggings and boots, guys where jeans and fake prescription glasses.

What kinds of relationships have you had since coming to school?

How would you rate the social scene on campus?

Facts

Social Scene

There’s room for everyone, but finding a niche can be a daunting task. The general maxim applies: Anyone looking for friends will find them, it just takes some time. Some of the dorms are more social than others, though the social scene really is a combination of effort and interest.

Hookups or Relationships?

The first month or so of school will be your chance to get to know more people than you ever knew existed in the world. That said, there will be a lot of people out there looking for that special someone. Once the school year really gets rolling, however, many students begin to focus more and more on their studies, and relationships fall to the wayside. For girls, the numbers are certainly against you; all the guys may be taken by mid-November. Around finals time, everyone gets a little bit frustrated, so that may just be your lucky time of year.

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

Loyola is not a party school by any means, but that doesn't mean that students don't like to go out. Exhibit A to this hypothesis is Thursday night at Hamilton's Pub. The otherwise only reasonably busy establishment becomes packed wall-to-wall with students, particularly freshmen, sophomores, and all those upperclassmen who are not yet sick of pushing their way through this human meat market. Hamilton's can be a lot of fun on any night, and an unhealthy amount of people meet their significant others there. If the bar is just not your style, it is perfectly possible to meet people around campus. Some students just roll out of bed and go to class in their pajamas, but a large percentage of students dress to the nines. There are few better ways to get to know that hot girl in your biology lab than to invite her over for a pre-exam cram session. Also, most Loyola dorms are coed, so great guys and girls could be little more than a floor away from you.

Dress Code

NCAA Division I sports may not be popular at Loyola, but the student body is a fairly athletic one all the same. You see a lot of sporty looking people walking around, wearing baseball hats, soccer jerseys, and exercise pants. At the Water Tower Campus, students mostly dress business casual, with khakis, button-down shirts, blouses, and skirts being standard. At the Lake Shore Campus, people like to look nice while staying comfortable. Most kids are gigantic fans of blue jeans, polo shirts, and hooded sweatshirts. Around finals time, this all changes, and slippers and sweat pants come into fashion.
