Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Of all the things found at Luther, drugs aren’t one of them. Students would rather get high on life than high on anything else. The college drug use that you see depicted in movies, television, and other popular culture simply doesn’t exist at Luther. It could be the natural entertainment that Luther gives students through activities or students’ general enjoyment of drinking without drugs. In either case, drug use at Luther is not abundant, but that’s not to say it doesn’t exist at all. Sure, there are students who enjoy marijuana every now and again. Quite a few of them are caught, simply because Luther’s cops have a way of finding out that sort of thing. There are also students who enjoy clove cigarettes, cigars, and other types of smoke. But if you are looking for stronger drugs than sticky icky, you will have to travel to one of the larger cities north or south to find it.

Of course, alcohol and caffeine are problems among a lot of students. Energy drinks are also becoming more popular among students, especially during finals week. Some students do abuse alcohol to excess, and it seems every few weeks, an ambulance will be called for an overdose. However, these events are few and far between, and certainly are not reflective of the traditional usage on campus. Luther, for a college campus in the 21st century, is about as clean as you could hope for.

Not a Huge Part of Student Life

If you look for a drug scene, you'll probably find one wherever you go to school. Alcohol is pretty typical on the weekends but usually doesn't cause too many problems. Aside from drinking, there's a small amount of pot use, but really not much at all.

Not a Large Role

Aside from drinking, drugs don't play much of a role at Luther College. Its outdoorsy atmosphere isn't conducive to much drug addiction.

Easy to Get If You Want It

I'm not going to lie and say that there is no alcohol or drugs on Luther's campus. However, I feel that, for the most part, it is not very public. Certainly I'm sure it would be pretty easy to get access to these substances should you so choose, but if not, I don't think it has a huge impact on you. I personally do not take part in these activities (nor do I really hang out with people who do) and therefore don't have a lot of information about it. I'd say drinking was definitely more popular here than drug use, or at least thats what I've seen. You do encounter drunk people in the dorms and such, especially on the weekends, but you'd get that at any college.
