Advice on Finding a Job/Internship
If you haven't thought about getting a job or internship, the Career Center is ready to help. Many alumni help the Career Center network and set up positions and on-campus interviews for students just starting the job hunt. All the people at the Career Center are very friendly and knowledgeable, and the Career Connection Web site allows students to post résumés, arrange interviews, and complete the job search without being in a suit. It's a good idea to start early; many on-campus interviews fill up quickly, so be proactive in your job or internship search. You won't have to do much work, as the Career Center sends out a bunch of e-mails each month with opportunities. Although they seem like junk e-mails, don't discard them: there can be opportunities in there for the taking. Take time and read through them all before deleting them. Overall, the advice the Career Center gives is worthwhile, so take it! This is especially important on your résumé and cover letter; the Career Center holds workshops monthly for creating a résumé, or revising another letter. You can also make personal appointments with a Career Center employee to have a mock interview or get advice and information on potential employers.
