Batesville is a small community, so there's not a lot of active night life. We are in a beautiful part of the country and there is an abundance of outdoor activities in the area. We are under 2 hours from both Memphis and Little Rock.

There isn't any public transport in Batesville, but the town is small enough it's not an issue. The school also has bikes to rent!

You'll find alcohols and parties at every college...but Lyon is quite a bit more subtle than a lot of universities. It's not crazy all of the time - it would be impossible to have constant parties and still keep your grades up.

There's always people cleaning around campus. The A- comes from apartment row, it just needs to be retouched though.

Excellent school and programs offered. Professors are top in their fields

There is an Honor System from the teachers so they trust the students and do not pressure them.

The buildings are great! Most of them are newer, and there are plenty of places to get together with friends to study, or just to study alone.

The main issue here is finding something to eat when you're dieting. It's difficult to maintain a healthy diet with some variety. But, if you don't really care about the freshman 15 (SO NOT A MYTH!!), then the food is just dandy!

I am doing my pre-requisites right now. So far, I love all of my classes and some of my req classes have influenced me to expand my minor.

The professors are some of the most trained in the country. Many of them are specialised in more than one field. My chemistry teacher was a very sharp BioChemisty.
For those interested in foreign language, I can only speak for the Japanese program. Peek-sensei is one of the best language instructors I have ever had. She gives you the full "Japanese experience" with lessons on language and culture. The Nichols Program allows you to travel to Japan aswell.
I have never been tested in my academic ability, until I went to Lyon. Many graduates continue to Ivy League.
You will be pushed to your limit here, but you will grow and you can do it. The professors are there for you, and the information is around every corner.

I live in a duplex apartment. My neighbors are extremely nice and the community around it makes me feel safe when I leave my family for classes.
I am not certain about apartments that are used for students sharing rent, as I live with my wife.
My landlord owns several other apartments in the area, and offers EXTREMELY affordable houses. She is extremely nice and reasonably available to her clients. She is not invasive.
On the other hand, for those of you single students, I highly recommend spending a year or two living on campus. They have excellent living conditions and it is easier for you to be apart of the Lyon Community. It is not a chance you should miss. There is ALWAYS something going on at Lyon. Just remember to study.
As for those of you who MUST commute, do not forget to spend a few hours at Lyon, outside of your classes. Do NOT be a recluse. It will not hurt your studies and it will give your brain a MUCH NEEDED break. The people at Lyon are more than accepting and strive to pull the commuters into the wonderful Lyon atmosphere. I love spending my off hours with my family on Lyon's campus. There are places to have picnics, go on a walk/hike, or just hang out with your friends that you WILL make. There are also plenty of events such as sports competitions, art shows, club events, and Frat/Sor outreach.

There are people from all different walks of life at Lyon. While there are many Christians, I have never felt pressured as a pagan. I recently did a paper about Pagan struggles in America, and received possitive support from the community.
I am personally friends with a Buddhist, Atheists, agnostics, and Christians. There is also plenty of opprotunity to make friends with citizens of other nations. While I grew up with other immigrants, others are not as familiar with non-Americans. The international members of the Lyon community are more than open with helping you understand their culture.
It is truly a learning experience of its own.

You'll need your own vehicle or have friends that have one.

Weather is changing every few minutes. Hot in the summer, barely a fall, cold and rainy in the winter with random ice and snow storms. Then spring weather stays for a while then gradually getting hotter until its summer again. The weather does affect the campus life but there is always an alternative date or location for activies so it's really no big deal.

Most of the facilites are newer so they're great, the athletic centers are older except for baseball, but they built their own. The student center is new so it's awesome, and there are lots of green spaces on campus right in the middle of everything, both are good hangouts. Since the school is small there are lots of campus events, and campus traditions include bagpipes (way too much noise, but you get used to it), and parties.

Living on campus is expensive but worth it. All of the campus activites happen around the dorms and apartments. There is always problems with the housing but the maintenance is really good about keeping up with it. Most of the housing is older but still in pretty good condition.

It's brand new, just fininshed this year. Two stories of everything a college kid will need located in one place.

It was really easy to get the financial aid done, but I would have loved to have gotten more. (I think everyone does though.)

There are a lot of computer labs, but the internet connections in the dorms and apts are kind of slow at times, especially during midterms and finals. There is wireless all over campus though, so bring your own computer (it just makes it easier) and don't worry about bringing your own printer.

I'm extremely happy with it. I'm worried about finding a job when I graduate, but I think everyone is.

I have not had an internship yet, but most are unpaid and fairly limited.

The faculty at Lyon is superb. They work with you closely and help you succeed in your individual field.

The application process is easy. I haven't declared my major yet, but I plan to soon.

Something for Everyone – Campus life is good at Lyon. There all sorts of clubs for students to join, from a Magic: The Gathering club to a Japanese Culture Club. There several Greek organizations on campus. Lyon does a mentoring program with a local high school. Recently the college set up a outdoor program called LEAP; they do rock climbing, caving, and sailing.
College Senior 2012-09-06T06:08:21Z
Lyon offers basketball, baseball, softball, volley-ball, golf, disk-golf, and soccer. No football. Sports are not a real big deal on campus.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
