The Manhattan College Public Safety does a magnificent job of protecting the students and ensuring that the campus is safe at all times. The campus is not very big, so Public Safety does not have a lot of ground to cover. But the campus does have a lot of dark areas, and Public Safety can often be seen walking around the main campus and parking lot areas to make sure everything is fine. Composed of about 30 guards, Public Safety monitors campus with 24-hour coverage. In addition, Horan Hall and Overlook Manor have their own security guard to protect the students living in those buildings. Besides doing their job of keeping students safe, the security guards are always really friendly, and if you take the time to get to know them, they can very easily become your friends. They really help Manhattan College develop a family atmosphere and are a crucial part of campus life.

Manhattan College really doesn’t have too many bad incidents, largely due to the fact that the campus is small and Public Safety is on top of it. When any incident regarding a Manhattan student occurs, like a mugging or robbery, Public Safety contacts the New York City Police Department and sends out an email immediately to students to warn them of what the perpetrators look like. There is also a police department located several blocks down the road from Manhattan, and cops are always around the area. The College is not the safest in America, but it is pretty close to the top of the list, with incidents like alcohol poisonings, muggings, and robberies very rare. One of the main reasons why there is not a lot of crime on campus is because of the surrounding area of Riverdale, which isn’t exactly the most dangerous neighborhood on the planet.
