Many students here participate in a sport during the fall, winter, or spring seasons; however, varsity sports are probably one of the biggest disappointments that Marietta students face. While a few of the teams are strong, many are fairly weak. Part of this could be because of the tough competition Marietta faces in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). Although many of the sporting events are blowouts not in Marietta's favor, students still find it fun to go and cheer on friends and get into the spirit of the college. The crew and baseball teams have received the most recognition when it comes to talent and success, but the cross country and track and field teams have recently become some of the more noticed teams.
Intramural sports are a completely different story from the varsity athletics. Students look forward to each season of intramurals when they get to create their own team, be placed in a league, and compete against other teams, all in the spirit of fun. There are even tournaments where the overall winners get to face the toughest competition.
