Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Apart from watching the “big game” as a joke at a local bar, sports are as laughable to Marlboro students as Botox injections. They’re just not interested. But, when it comes to competition and athleticism, Marlboro certainly has its share. Marlboro is more inwardly focused when it comes to physical competition. There's Dodgeball every Friday, the occasional basketball scrimmage, Renaissance fencing, and Frisbee and four-square after dinner. These activities would be the end-of-the-week highlights if Marlboro were on ESPN.

There are two sports students take seriously, though they may play them “Marlboro style.” The first is soccer. The team is an informal but rigorous group that meets twice a week to practice for weekend games. The second sport, Marlboro’s "real" sport, is broomball. Each February, about 11 teams are created with one goal in mind: to compete for the trophy in the Marlboro Cup. Hilariously, faculty, staff, and students come together to form what they think will be the winning team. They come up with a clever name, a team uniform, and a winning strategy. The Marlboro Cup is a two-day event where a frozen pond on campus is used as the ice rink for the battle of the century. It’s a wild event that has everyone gossipping and cheering. If you seek varsity football, Marlboro is not your place. But if it’s fun, friendly sportage you’re looking for, Marlboro has sure got it.

Not Much

If you're into athletics you shouldn't come here. You can start any kind of club you want but there is no competition.

School Spirit

Marlboro’s spirit could be thought of as its support for the community government. Because we are a self-governing community, our town meetings and constitution are extremely important to us. Most students care about these aspects of their education because they affect them directly. Though many students do not regularly attend Town Meeting, they certainly are concerned about the well-being of our community.

Best Place to Take a Walk

Moss Hollow Road, Pond Brook, South Pond Trail, Town Trail

Did You Know?

There is also the Outdoor Program (the OP), which organizes several trips a year involving activities such as kayaking, rafting, skiing/snowboarding, caving, climbing, backpacking, and the like.

There are also plenty of student-organized sports activities. Some popular unorganized sports include broomball (hockey played with brooms on a frozen pond), ultimate Frisbee, and four-square.
