Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

College food generally has a bad rap. But, like everything else at Marlboro, we do things a little differently. A lot of universities have food courts and popular chains along with their cafeteria options, but Marlboro has one dining hall and one café. Most meals at Marlboro have a bit of home cookin’ to them. There are rarely meals with any packaging or plastic. Each dish is prepared with love and often will taste like it’s right out of the oven. You won’t find that at other colleges. Though generally good and sometimes even yummy, there a number of Marlboro dishes, made with love as they may be, that stand out as not so great. Avoid “Vegan Surprise” and “Tofu Yummy.”

For vegetarians, there is usually a large variety of options compared with other schools, though vegans will find it a little harder to construct a full meal. When the Dining Hall is not sufficient or a meal time is missed due to class or sleeping in, the café in the Campus Center is always a sweet spot. It has made-to-order dishes that are consistently good, and the prices are very reasonable. Imagine meals at Marlboro as dinnertime for a family of 300. Everyone eats together.

Food Sucks

The worst thing about Marlboro is the food. About once a week there will be a great meal but usually it's awful. There is a place to get food in the campus center but it's overpriced and the hours aren't concrete.

Dining at Marlboro

The kitchen at Marlboro is constantly accused of stashing money away and not giving enough food to keep students running. Luckily, this has caused students to get more involved in the kitchen, and in the 2010-2011 year our food provider has to re-bid, so things to change. Students are also starting a business of a coffee shop/cafe on campus, which as I understand it is a lot cooler than what other college's can offer.

The Dining Hall is where most of the students and some faculty eat. Students sit down with their teachers and make conversation as easily as they do with their peers. Because it is one of the easiest places to find a friend or teacher, many students come to the Dining Hall, although they definitely don’t come for the food.

Did You Know?

Marlboro has a Food Committee that is always working to improve our food system for the campus community. If you ever have an issue, you can attend one of their meetings and make a suggestion.

If you ever want to add a shake of oregano to your meal, borrow a ladle, or just have a question, Marlboro’s kitchen staff is always available to help you out. Just go to the window in the Dining Hall and make a request.
