Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

A quality education is the first and most important reason that students choose Marquette. Every MU student has to complete a “core of common studies,” which consists of classes in the arts, diverse cultures, history, math, philosophy, rhetoric, science, and theology. Since Marquette is a Jesuit institution, most of the classes will also focus on the ethics of that particular subject. The University offers more than 75 majors and minors, in everything from broadcast journalism to biomedical engineering, so there is something to peak anyone's interest at Marquette.

The classes here are taught by educated professors and working professionals in their fields. Teaching Assistants (TAs) are there for help in the larger classes, but they don’t ever teach the main lecture sections at MU. With a few exceptions, the class sizes are small enough that professors get to know their students by name and build meaningful relationships. There are also plenty of academic resources available on campus, including free tutoring, a writing center, and assistance for students who struggle with learning disabilities. At Marquette, students will get one of the best educations that money can buy, but students can only get the best if they put in the effort.

Professors

The professors within Marquette University differ greatly within each class. For each subject, there is always one hard teacher and one easy teacher. This makes tests, labs, and discussions much harder for certain unlucky students.

Excellent School

Marquette is a very highly regarded academic school. You won't find too many easy classes. You definitely can't just float on by in any major. Engineering is getting really big especially with the new engineering building. Workload is pretty heavy but not all the time which is good, every now and then you get a breather. Marquette really stresses internships which I find the be one of MU's best qualities. They do an excellent job of getting employers in contact with students, after all, that's why we're here at college.

Great!

Marquette is known for solid academics. Three of our business programs were ranked in the top 20 this year, and the university manages to recruit and retain many excellent professors. Of course, check www.ratemyprofessors.com before scheduling, but there are very few 'horror stories'. Most classes are relatively small and professors are usually willing to help. Take advantage of office hours and Google your professors to see about the various interesting backgrounds they have!
