Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

MU athletics can be summed up in one word: basketball! The popularity of men’s varsity basketball surpasses the popularity of all other varsity, club, and intramural sports combined at Marquette. Unfortunately, for this reason, other sports are overlooked and do not receive as much funding or attention. But when basketball season rolls around, a lot of students get Fanatics tickets (a package that includes admission to all Marquette home games, regardless of sport, seats in the student section for all men’s basketball home games, and a free T-shirt) and are in line to see every game at the Bradley Center. Waiting in line in winter temperatures isn't fun, but when you're with your friends and fellow classmates, you don't even notice the cold.

Whether you enjoy being a spectator, a fanatic, or showing off your skills on the court or the field, athletics are an excellent way to become involved in Marquette life. If you don’t quite have to skills to make the varsity team, club sports still offer the chance to compete with athletes from other schools. Intramural sports are a remarkable way to meet new friends, get exercise, and most importantly, to have fun! And with a variety of different sports options, Marquette University’s intramural sports opportunities are almost limitless.

Sports Big at MU

As a student-athlete, I know first hand how much MU puts into athletics. While some athletic teams receive a little more preferential treatment than others, for the most part, athletes are given what they need to succeed at the collegiate level both in the classroom and in their competitions. Students at MU are very supportive of athletics and seem to really come together around the Golden Eagles, especially the men's basketball team. While having a Div. 1 football team would be a nice thing to experience in addition to the other sports, I feel Marquette has a lot to offer both its athletes and its fans.

MU Basketball and That Is It

Marquette has a very good basketball team! if that is all you want then go to kentucky, at least they have football even if it is s****y! Marquette has no other sports worth paying attention to. the boys soccer, girls volleyball, soccer and basketball only pull in 25 students a game max.

Varsity Sports and Intramural Sports Are Stellar

Our teams have been performing very well as of late and therefore the support has been superb. Some of the players on the teams can give off a sense of arrogance. There are some fantastic intramural sporting opportunities as well.

Men's basketball, soccer

Most Overlooked Teams

Women's basketball, lacrosse, and volleyball are overlooked—actually, it seems most women's sports are.

School Spirit

Obviously, students have great school spirit at men’s basketball games. Students like to wear Golden Eagles spirit wear, which is available at the Golden Eagle Spirit Shop on the first floor of the Alumni Memorial Union.

Getting Tickets

If there is one event MU students enjoy, the men’s varsity basketball games would top all. For $100, Marquette students can get a Fanatics Package, which includes seating in the Marquette student section for all men’s basketball home games, a free official Fanatics T-shirt, and admission to all Marquette home games (that’s right—all home games, not just basketball). Student admission to women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, and women’s volleyball is free with an MU ID.

Best Place to Take a Walk

Along the Lake Michigan shore line or down Wisconsin Avenue

Did You Know?

One of Marquette's most famous alumni—Dwyane Wade—is also one of its greatest athletes. Wade led the Marquette basketball team to the NCAA Final Four in 2003, and was selected fifth overall in the 2003 NBA draft.
