Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Based on the statistics, Marquette’s campus is primarily made up of white, upper-middle-class, Midwestern students. But even though Marquette’s student population is not all that diverse, minority and international students do exist, and the University also offers a variety of multicultural clubs and organizations that showcase a number of ethnicities and help to create a voice for the minority communities on campus. Overall, relations among all racial groups have been and remain civil.

As a Catholic Jesuit university, Marquette recognizes and cherishes the dignity of each and every individual, regardless of his or her age, culture, disability, ethnicity, faith, gender, language, race, sexual orientation, or social class. Through Marquette’s admissions and employment policies and welcoming campus environment, the school is seeking to become a more diverse and inclusive academic community. Each member of the Marquette family is taught to consider everyone with the same amount of care and to respect and treasure all differences.

Facts

Gay Pride

In general, the Marquette community is quite accepting of gay students. There are several gay tolerance groups on campus, such as the Gay/Straight Alliance, LeGOALS (Lesbian, Gay, and Other Advocates Legal Society) at Marquette University Law School, and the Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual Discussion Group. However, even with these groups, the gay community remains small.

Political Activity

Republican or Democrat, feminist and activist—there is something for everyone on the political spectrum at Marquette. There is a wide variety of social justice groups, along with the political groups on campus.

Economic Status

Given that Marquette is not the cheapest of places, a fair number of students apply for financial aid. But, on the whole, MU seems to have a predominant number of wealthy attendants.

Most Common Religions

Since Marquette is a Jesuit Roman Catholic university, it's only fitting that many students are Catholic. There are also many Protestant students, but all religions are welcome on campus.

Minority Clubs on Campus

There are tons of minority clubs at Marquette, including African Student Association, Arab Student Association, Bayanihan Student Organization, Black Student Council, Chinese Student Association, Indian Student Association, Indigenous Student Council, Indonesian Student Association, Korean American Student Association, Latin American Student Organization (LASO), Malaysian Student Organization, Pacific Islands Student Organization, Pakistani Student Organization, Raices (Latino Student Organization), and Serbian Student Organization.
