Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

While there is a certain degree of drug usage on campus, it’s rare that anyone actually ever notices or sees it. Overall, the act of doing drugs is mostly kept secret and behind the scenes, and those students who do choose to participate—which is a minor population—do not peer pressure anyone else into doing drugs or create a highly visible threat.

As for the existence of “softer” drugs, alcohol is, of course, a biggie, with a small side order of marijuana coming in second. Insignificant dealings in ecstasy and cocaine have been spoken of through the grapevine, but the chances of crossing paths with anyone who does these drugs should you choose not to are slim to none. On the whole, the environment at Marquette is virtually safe and relatively drug-free.

Drinking

As far as drugs - I know some people who have smoked weed. What I primarily see is drinking. When school started lots of kids to ER. Want to find a place to drink - no problem. RA's try and keep up in the dorms, but if someone wants to drink there is always a party somewhere. I feel peer pressure to drink because so many other people do. I don't feel like anyone would make me, but I worry that I'm missing something or that it can't be that bad if so many other people are doing it.

It's Wisconsin

Marquette is in Wisconsin so obviously alcohol is a pretty big deal, but if it's not your thing people won't really pressure you too much. There have been some drugs, but people almost always get busted and the policy is taken pretty seriously.

There is more drinking on campus than drug use, and even that is more contained to the upperclassman housing.
