Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Students attend Marquette not only for the superb education it provides, but also because it is such an amazing place to call home. The campus has the feel of both a close-knit community and a larger campus where you can meet new faces every day. The academic buildings are a beautiful blend of rustic and modern. There are two workout facilities on opposite ends of campus. Raynor Library is new and completely modern, while Memorial Library has a retro feel. They are connected by "the bridge," which is a nice place to study and grab a coffee from The Brew. All of the dorms are on the west side of campus, and the academic buildings are on the east. They are split by Wisconsin Avenue, a main throughway. The split gives a good division between academic life and home life.

The Alumni Memorial Union is the hub of campus life. At all hours of the day, the AMU is busy with people grabbing a coffee at The Brew, studying or playing pool in the Brooks Lounge, attending a lecture in the ballrooms, visiting campus ministry and Chapel of the holy Family, cashing a check at U.S. Bank, or grabbing some food in the food court. The tutoring centers are located in the AMU, along with the Office of Student Development and Office of Student Activities. Marquette is always finding ways to expand its facilities to make Milwaukee feel more like home for the students.

Major Improvements

Most of the buildings are nice, some are older looking, and some are brand new and absolutely amazing (such as the library, law school, engineering building, etc.)

Rapidly Improving

While there are buildings that need to be updated, over the past couple of years Marquette has built 3 new buildings (Raynor library, Eckstein Law, and Engineering hall) which are three of the most impressive buildings I've seen. Especially the new engineering building (although I'm slightly biased because I'm an engineering major). On the note, being a construction engineering major I know that there are plans to build a new dorm, a new rec center and a new nursing school in the near future.

I Like the Way We Look

A lot of the buildings are new on campus. It would be nice to have air conditioning in the dorms though. It is kind of annoying to get into Memorial Library because you have to use a pedestrian bridge from the other library and the floors are all weird so it is very easy to get lost. Marquette is always decorated for the holidays which is really pretty.

Facts

"Green" Initiatives

Marquette does campus-wide recycling of various items, including computers, cooking oil, and furniture, in addition to the usual recyclables. The University is building LEED-certified buildings that incorporate environmentally friendly features. There are several green student groups on campus that are pretty active.

Favorite Things To Do

Students like to bowl or do karaoke at the Annex, enjoy a peaceful stroll along Lake Michigan, or sweat out stress at the Rec Plex or the Rec Center. Other things to do include monkeying around in the Brooks Lounge, relaxing at the Brew Bayou in the AMU, or catching a movie at the Varsity Theater.
